A brother for Holly

Littlemissdaredevil · 03/02/2020 23:08

I’m currently pregnant with dc 2 who is a boy. I prefer more traditional/old fashioned/biblical names. DH has pooh poohed everything I have suggested as old fashioned.

Instead he suggested Thor or Einer and won’t suggest anything else. I dislike these names. We are not Scandinavian and have never been there.

We already have a DD called Holly.

Any suggestions welcome!

@Littlemissdaredevil Frederick might be number 65 but the name Freddie is higher (it’s number 18)
Benjamin is also top 50. If you don’t want a top 50 name then avoid Frederick/Freddie/Benjamin obviously but also make sure to avoid 2018 fastest rising names: Hunter, Roman/Rowan & Grayson. By the time 2020 data come out those fastest rising names will be top 20.

There’s are loads of lovely names outside the top 100 though.

Crockof · 04/02/2020 16:02

Frederick might be but Fred Freddie are really popular.

Yesterdayforgotten · 04/02/2020 14:17

Dont like fred, sorry but as long as you and your dh like it that's is the main thing

Frederick is currently 65 in the latest ONS baby names publications.

I think I will try to have a chat with DH at the weekend about some of the suggestions. We don’t need to decide now but I would like us come up with some possibles. Last time we couldn’t agree any possibles and then DD came early and didn’t have a name for ages!

It's v old fashioned - but definitely not in the top 50!

Thor or Einer aren't exactly modern but your DH says your choices are too old fashioned?Hmm

featherquilt · 04/02/2020 08:08

It's a nice name but I would not use Ben

What about Magnus - Scandinavian but not totally out there.

Or Angus, Ellis, Malachy, Laurence?

Whatsyourflava · 04/02/2020 07:48

I think Barnaby might be a good option if you want something a bit different @Littlemiss daredevil

If you’re wanting a name outside the top 50 i’d also remember to avoid the fastest rising names then. “Grayson” “Roman”(Rowan) and “Hunter” for example are currently outside top 50 but are fastest rising names for last 2 years so these names will be well within the top 50 (maybe even top 20) by the time the 2020 official data is released given their current growth trajectory.

Littlemissdaredevil · 04/02/2020 07:33

Thanks everyone. Names like Dominic, Nathaniel, Christopher, Jacob, Daniel, Samuel, Joel, Vinnie had all been discounted my DH. Quite a few names mentioned above are the names of cousins.

DH took the piss out of me for liking names like Percy Sad as the are too old fashioned.

My favourites are Frederick (Freddie), Benjamin, or Robin atm.

I might be able to convince DH re: Barnaby. He liked this name when I was pregnant with Holly.

I think we may go down the nature inspired names route if I can’t convince DH regarding traditional names. Due to our surname I don’t want something top 50.
