Baby Girl Number 4. Eleanor's middle names

itmsylifeitsnowornever · 29/01/2020 16:13

I'm pregnant with our 4th daughter. We have chosen Eleanor as the first name. She will have 2 middle names like her sisters. The first middle name will be a tree name and the second related to water, as we have done with our 3 older daughters.

The tree names we can't decide between are Cedar, Maple and Willow. The water names are Harbour and Marina. I'm not so keen on Cedar but DH really likes it. So the combinations we have are as follows. We have vetoes "Maple Marina" because we dislike the same initials

Eleanor Cedar Harbour
Eleanor Cedar Marina
Eleanor Maple Harbour
Eleanor Willow Harbour
Eleanor Willow Marina

Willow Marina is the best - Cedar and Harbour are awful, and especially considering your other childrens' names - she will really feel she drew the short straw. Plus as others have said, both Harbour and Marina are not really 'about' water! They're buildings. Probably no coincidence that they sound harder, harsher and uglier.

Willow Ocean, Willow Rain, Willow Aqua, Willow Salacia (Roman goddess of the sea).

Traditionalwife · 30/01/2020 08:50

What about Linden Marina..Linden a type of tree and a unisex name like the president lydon b Johnson.Flowers

ikeakia · 30/01/2020 06:42

I will be the odd one out, I quite like Harbour for a middle name.

I’ve lived next to one my whole life and so it’s something memorable for me. Perhaps you’re similar? I wouldn’t use it as a first name, but middle as you’re suggesting is fine to me.

I fully accept that I’m very quirky when it comes to names though.

DonorConceivedMe · 29/01/2020 23:39

Marina is pretty as a name but not as a water feature!

Hazel for the tree? Or Ivy?!

I'd say Lake at a push but maybe break the pattern?!

TatianaLarina · 29/01/2020 23:38

I’d dump Marina and Harbour - don’t work at all. Sounds like the name of a seaside location.

Eleanor Willow sounds best from the rest.

Astronica · 29/01/2020 23:34

Eleanor Willow Marina is my favourite from your list. I agree with pps - Eleanor Willow Lake, Spring or Rain would be gorgeous though.

IHeartKingThistle · 29/01/2020 23:31

If you told me the name was Harbour I would assume you had said Harper.

Chocmallows · 29/01/2020 23:28

EWH

1stTimeMama · 29/01/2020 23:26

Your other water based names are all naturally occurring, and flow with the nature aspect of the trees. A marina and harbour are places boats rest. Busy, clunky, built up, man-made etc. they don't mean the same thing to me.

Eleanor Willow is pleasant, but I'd rethink using something actually to do with water, and not boats. Lake maybe?

SundayMorningSun · 29/01/2020 19:22

Sabrina would be a cool river name (goddess of the River Severn). Eleanor Willow Sabrina sounds lovely.

PrinkingPreening · 29/01/2020 19:16

I agree with PPs about Harbour and Marina. They do sound too man-made and too much like naming a yacht club. Are they names you would actually have chosen for the first child, or are you scraping the barrel a bit in order to stay with the theme? Sorry to be so rude. But I think it would be better to vary the theme, if necessary, rather than give your DD a crap name.

Delta or Rain are much better imo, or maybe Spring.

Once again I'm sorry to have been so rude!

Farmgrl1111 · 29/01/2020 18:47

I only like Eleanor Marina

user1493494961 · 29/01/2020 18:36

Willow Marina, the others are odd.

Sojo88 · 29/01/2020 18:31

I prefer Eleanor Willow Harbour

Ratbagcatbag · 29/01/2020 18:30

What about Talise for the water name?

It's Native American and means "lovely water". Or Tali which means "dew".

3girlsmama · 29/01/2020 18:27

What about Marine instead of Marina?

I think it flows (excuse the pun!) Grin better with all your tree names.
Other options:

Tree: Juniper/Ash/Cherry
Water: Lake/Laguna/Delta

Good luck, let us know what you pick.

finallychangedmyusername · 29/01/2020 18:22

Eleanor Willow Marina

TrippingOnSunshine · 29/01/2020 18:10

Willow Marina is the best combination from your list.
But I agree with pps saying use Ocean!

FennyBridges · 29/01/2020 17:56

They all sound like places in North Carolina. It's the 'Harbour' or 'Marina' bit. I realise the latter is the girls' name

bridgetreilly · 29/01/2020 17:48

Harbour and Marina are both really weird and with the tree name before them, they both sound like you're naming a yacht club, not a child.

Oceane would be a much nicer choice, imo.

badg3r · 29/01/2020 17:11

I like willow marina best.
What about rain, delta, maya, Isla for other water names?
And juniper or hazel for tree names?

diddlediddle · 29/01/2020 16:39

Harbour seems like a kind of ugly name to me for a girl, especially compared with the other water names you've used.

Marina is much nicer, at least it's a known name. I'd prefer something natural though (marina and harbour both conjure man made features). Ocean?

Willow is nicer than Cedar too.

So I'd go for Eleanor Marina Willow

itmsylifeitsnowornever · 29/01/2020 16:31

We already have Rowan, Aspen and Holly, Bay, River and Brook

Omg your name choices are so gorgeous @itmsylifeitsnowornever

I love Eleanor and Willow.

Not so fussed about your other choices but Eleanor is just perfect

PrinkingPreening · 29/01/2020 16:28

Willow is the best tree name.

Harbour is awful. Sorry.
