So me and my partner are due to have a baby in April, it's our first together but we both have 2 children each from previous relationships. He has a girl and boy named Hollie and Charlie, I have two boys name Logan and Leo.
We have both come up with the name "Winter" for our expected baby boy, my partner and I love it, however i am so worried it's too "out there" i like names a little different but not bizarre and I feel this name is just bizarre, im worried what people would think especially family members and I dont want to set this child up with a ridiculous name that will have any sort of effect on his life, I really would appriciate unbiased opinions of this name please from uk mums, thankyou x

Could I suggest Winston. It's a lovely name, good associations with your baby's arrival close to the 75 yr anniversary of VE Day. Shortens to Win.

I'm not keen on Winter and would probably guess it to be a girl's name.

Really dislike the name Winter, boy or girl. The half-siblings have ordinary names so I would go with something more mainstream

MyuMe · 28/01/2020 15:15

Hunter as as alternative

It sounds similar?

Fred578 · 28/01/2020 15:15

I would expect someone called Winter to be a girl too I think

RoseMartha · 28/01/2020 15:15

Not a fan and sounds like girls name to me too.

avocadont · 28/01/2020 15:14

If you both like the name then go with the name. I like it though, if you're worried about opinions

HalfManHalfLabrador · 28/01/2020 15:14

It’s a girls name

AdaColeman · 28/01/2020 15:13

Winter wouldn't get my vote, and even more strange to use it as a name for a child born in the spring.

CremeEggThief · 28/01/2020 15:12

Predominantly a name for girls and it would be strange giving it to a baby born in spring too.

Whoops75 · 28/01/2020 15:12

Not a fan and would think it was a girls name if I heard it.

forkfun · 28/01/2020 15:09

Well, better than the three siblings I know who are called 'skye', 'blu' and 'summer'. But not much better.

ItIsAllChange · 28/01/2020 15:08

I know half a dozen girls with Winter as either a first or middle name (and Nicole Richie’s daughter has it as a middle name which is why she has it as her clothing range name) so I don’t think it’s an out there or unusual name but I would be surprised to hear it belonged to a boy and worry about the potential for being bullied at school for having a perceived girl’s name.

JanuaryIsNotTheOnlyMonth · 28/01/2020 15:06

I would assume Girl as well, as I know two small girls with that name, but I can see it suiting either.

GertiMJN · 28/01/2020 15:05

As you've asked, I really don't like it.
I agree that I would probably assume Winter was a girl, probably because Autumn and Summer are girls' names.

It also is quite different from the baby's siblings names, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it could possibly be taken by older siblings as you saying this (shared) child is extra special ...

WeirdPookah · 28/01/2020 15:05

I think the baby being born in April and being called Winter is odd. It doesn't fit and I think people will expect them to have a winter birthday. I don't dislike the name as such but that seems off.

Seasonal names are often given to celebrate the birth date of a baby.

TemporaryName123 · 28/01/2020 15:00

Honestly I would think it’s more of a girls name. But at the end of the day, your baby, your choice so shouldn’t matter what others think

Sexnotgender · 28/01/2020 14:59

It’s not my favourite... it’s not terrible but I wouldn’t choose it.
