So me and my partner are due to have a baby in April, it's our first together but we both have 2 children each from previous relationships. He has a girl and boy named Hollie and Charlie, I have two boys name Logan and Leo.
We have both come up with the name "Winter" for our expected baby boy, my partner and I love it, however i am so worried it's too "out there" i like names a little different but not bizarre and I feel this name is just bizarre, im worried what people would think especially family members and I dont want to set this child up with a ridiculous name that will have any sort of effect on his life, I really would appriciate unbiased opinions of this name please from uk mums, thankyou x

Expressedways · 28/01/2020 18:42

I quite like it but only for a girl born in winter.

Happyandglorious · 28/01/2020 18:37

It's an ok name but imo not for a boy born in April. And it doesn't go with your other kid's names also only my opinion and names dont have to go.

ParsleyPot · 28/01/2020 18:10

Not a good choice.

Back to the name book, please.

Mumma4262 · 28/01/2020 18:07

I really like Winter, but only for a girl. It’s not a name I would have the nerve to use for my own kids but I do really like it.

I would think it was cute if I had met a child with that name, but slightly odd if I knew they were born in April.

AuntieStella · 28/01/2020 17:51

Winter is traditionally a boy's name (as those who dive back into their family trees and find a rich vein of Victoriana will know)

But I do think it's odd on an April born boy. Though there have been plenty of posts on other threads saying that girls do not need to be born in April to be called April/Avril, so perhaps that doesn't matter.

8by8 · 28/01/2020 17:47

It’s usually a girls name, and it doesn’t go with your 4 children’s names at all, so I wouldn’t.

MrsBertBibby · 28/01/2020 17:45

Another no. Especially with an April birth!

Give him a normal name like all his siblings.

Pieceofpurplesky · 28/01/2020 16:44

Lovely for a girl born in December.

Agree with PPs Winston, Hunter.
Aspen? Jasper?

Emmacb82 · 28/01/2020 16:20

I don’t dislike it although I wouldn’t use it. I see it as a girls name and all your other children have regular names, why be so different for this one?

Sharonthetotallyinsane · 28/01/2020 16:10

No

potter5 · 28/01/2020 16:06

If your surname is the same as your username i.e. Wild, then definitely not.

Mummyzzz044 · 28/01/2020 16:05

Me and my sister were just discussing this name today!! But we spelt it 'Wynter ' I love it for a boy, my sister thinks it's more for a girl. Amazing name

devonbusblog · 28/01/2020 16:05

It's not out there but it seems like a girl's name and I wouldn't choose it for a boy.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 28/01/2020 15:56

It's not out there but Its a girl's name.

RitaTheBeater · 28/01/2020 15:54

My mum has a seasonal name and wasn't born in the season of her name. She was named after someone in her family but gets completely sick of having to explain her name and the story behind it.

WeHaveSnowdrops · 28/01/2020 15:51

Awful. Even if born in winter. Daft if born in spring.

Cuddling57 · 28/01/2020 15:48

Think about your child. Will they be happy when they are a teenager with this name, when all of them mostly just want to fit in.

DramaAlpaca · 28/01/2020 15:45

It's a girl's name.

Apart from that, people usually try to be anonymous on here. It's very outing posting your children's names, especially when your username looks like it might be your real name too. You might want to change that.

UAintMyMuvva · 28/01/2020 15:43

I see it more as a girls name. Agree it’s odd for an April born child, too. It’s a no from me.

missymousey · 28/01/2020 15:43

I love it. I would think it was a boy's name. Maybe a bit random with an April birthday but that wouldnt put me off using it.

Whatsyourflava · 28/01/2020 15:42

I don’t think it matters at all what month the baby is born in. Infact I think it’s better if the baby isn’t born in “winter” because it shows you just picked the name because you like it. I would never assume anyone called “June” is born in June. Know a little girl called Summer , have no idea and no interest in when her birthday is

Whatsyourflava · 28/01/2020 15:40

I think it’s a great name and a name I would definitely consider using @GemmaWild14

I just wanted to make sure you knew what the official ONS statistics were for this name. In 2018, 158 baby girls born were named Winter. Only 8 baby boys were given this name in 2018 by comparison. Because the name is so rare still I wouldn’t say people would see it as a strictly “girls” or “boys” name but as you can see from the numbers, there’s far more girls. Would that bother you? Do you have any other names you both like?

Onceuponatimethen · 28/01/2020 15:21

I think it doesn’t fit with sibling names and sounds odd as a first name for a boy. Much better as a middle name.

Harvey3 · 28/01/2020 15:18

A girl's name, if it's a name at all. Particularly bizarre if baby isn't a winter baby?!

Whoops75 · 28/01/2020 15:18

The half-siblings have ordinary names so I would go with something more mainstream

Agree
Why the need to go hipster for child no5
