Saw a thread the other day and someone mentioned Hecate! I love it but could never saddle a child with it. We played very safe with our name choices but if I was to throw caution to the wind, we would have some very out there names

Girls

Hecate
Calista
Calliope
Olympia
Giovanna
Zola
Athena

Boys

Hudson
Lorenzo
Ira
Cassius
Carey
Troy
Calvin
Solomon
Tate
Roman

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Willow, Winter and Holly

I think they're lovely names, winter probably only one that's out there

@goldenorbspider me too! I really pushed for it but we're not Scandinavian!
@Whattheother2catsprefer you could just name dc Gil, there's one in ds's preschool.

puds11 · 26/01/2020 19:33

I really love the name Vada like in My Girl, obviously ruined by Star Wars Hmm

I also really loved Dinah but thought it would be to easy to take the piss out of.

PotatoesPastaAndBread · 26/01/2020 19:33

Wolf
Fox

Isis - unusable as a baby name now I think!

BelfastNonBlonde · 26/01/2020 19:32

Willow, Winter and Holly (for a Spring baby! 😂)

BamboozledandBefuddled · 26/01/2020 19:29

Venus Grin Both Morning Star or Light Bearer are lovely. There's a very slight possibility that Satan might be more appropriate for a child of mine though!

Whattheother2catsprefer · 26/01/2020 19:29

Gilbert - I'm a huge Anne of Green Gables fan but I just couldn't do that to a child (but I love Gil as a NN). We went for Matthew instead.

goldenorbspider · 26/01/2020 19:29

Tove is a wonderful name! It's just lovely to say and I'm a huge moonins fan

I love the meaning Bamboozled, the Venus meaning or the Satan meaning?

BamboozledandBefuddled · 26/01/2020 19:19

Lucifer. I love the meaning but don't think I'd deal very tactfully with people who shortened it to Lucy....

BikeRunSki · 26/01/2020 19:17

The names I chickenrd out of for DS and DD are

Isambard
Lorelei

Chipmonkeypoopoo · 26/01/2020 19:14

I don't really have any. I'm Greek so all these seemingly "out there" names are ones I'd happily use.

DramasticChanges · 26/01/2020 19:10

I have a fondness for slightly ridiculous names, which considering surname is Smith, I think we can get away with an unusual first name (like the amazing Zadie Smith)

Rocket (thought maybe too salad related)
Alexei
Pilar
Nova
Juno
Esperanza
Ziggy
Zuli (pre Go Jetters)
Tove
Cairo

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 26/01/2020 18:56

I love Hepzibah!

I have a relative called Artemis which I think is lovely.

Jademoroc · 26/01/2020 18:53

Amazing names don’t be ashamed or worried about the names you wish to name your child my son’s name is Morocco’Aslan he’s 10 and loves his name. Currently expecting baby No2 and already thinking about names lol

ikeakia · 26/01/2020 18:50

Vincenzo
Sirius

Taygete
Roah

I would probably use them though!

goldenorbspider · 26/01/2020 18:43

We have very strong norther accents Lorenzo sounds awful in our regional dialect 😆

Girls
Hecate - no
Calista - yes
Calliope - maybe
Olympia - yes
Giovanna - is it back in fashion?
Zola - no, Budd.
Athena - yes

Boys
Hudson - ok, a bit too surnamey
Lorenzo - I know one so no. He's great but people would talk.
Ira - no
Cassius - yes but Muhammad Ali
Carey - no
Troy - no because I know 2.
Calvin - no.
Solomon - love it
Tate - no
Roman - no

I'd probably use them on pets. DC got very conventional, safe, classic names.

goldenorbspider · 26/01/2020 18:25

Atticus is a fantastic name, I like atlas as well but it's very severe

I've missed the boat there, I did suggest ronan as an alternative but my other half wasn't having it

Mamabear88 · 26/01/2020 18:17

For girls I really like Ophelia or Winter and for boys I love the names Woody, Forest, Luther or August. I personally wouldn't actually use them though.

willowmelangell · 26/01/2020 18:03

I wanted to name my late son Wolfgang. I didn't. But his middle name was Jareth after Bowie, Goblin King in Labyrinth. That felt quite daring.
I wanted a girl baby I could call Katherine. So I could have a Wolf and a Kat.
Other boy names I dithered about were Jett and Jedrek.

blossomberry · 26/01/2020 17:51

Ocean
Tigerlily

Wolf
Atticus

TeaAddict235 · 26/01/2020 17:46

Yannick
Wilfred
Zanine (we knew a xanine)

BurneyFanny · 26/01/2020 17:08

I really wanted Yorick for a while, but it was clearly never going to happen in the real world.
