Saw a thread the other day and someone mentioned Hecate! I love it but could never saddle a child with it. We played very safe with our name choices but if I was to throw caution to the wind, we would have some very out there names

Girls

Hecate
Calista
Calliope
Olympia
Giovanna
Zola
Athena

Boys

Hudson
Lorenzo
Ira
Cassius
Carey
Troy
Calvin
Solomon
Tate
Roman

October.

Dd was due in September so didn’t choose it but then she was late so I could have.

She would have hated it.

mclover · 27/01/2020 08:45

Luna - I think it's lush but my friends pointed out she'd be called Luna - tic in the playground

StCharlotte · 27/01/2020 08:42

Phaedra

I know two Phaedras. Both female. One Greek, one not. I think it's lovely.

Spied · 27/01/2020 08:37

I'd love to have used
Coco
Dakota
Lolita

Sonny
Just couldn't bring myself to.

Livpool · 27/01/2020 08:32

Castiel for a boy

MooseBreath · 27/01/2020 08:25

Poppy: Where I'm from, Clement would be considered very effeminate. While I have no problem with this, many do.

ChocoChunk1 · 27/01/2020 07:54

I wanted to name our dd Genevieve but my dh has an ex with a similar name so it wasn't a goer Grin.

Demetria/Demeter
Rosario
Magdalena
Simone
Katerina
Juliet (I like names from Shakespeare plays!)
Nefertiti
Cleo
Aphrodite
Leilani (wasn't allowed this one because it sounded too much like a tree)

Ramses
Mercutio
Romeo
Tybalt
Caesar
Cyrus (history names...)
Atticus is a bloody strong name
Alexander

goldenorbspider · 27/01/2020 07:50

Murdo (I'm Scottish)
Cary

Those are fantastic names, what's not to like about Cary. It's a firm favourite of mine

Grace
Natalie
Abigail
Kathryn Katharine
Rachel
Dora
Deborah

For a boy. I'm sick of the sexist name double standard but realise the world would seriously need to change, otherwise it would just be a handicap for the poor boy.

^^ I was wondering where you was going with that names list Smile

ALASKA!! In my accent it would be ah-lah-skah and I love it! I didnt go for it as I recognized it's kinda wired but I still love it!

I don't get why so many city and places names are acceptable and Alaska is not 😭

Musmerian · 27/01/2020 07:46

@Sal1977 - Lemoni means lemon in Greek.

Poppydaisies · 27/01/2020 07:45

What's tease worthy about Clement? Confused

I know a teen Clement who is very popular and happy with his name. Often called Clem for short.

I also know quite a few Clementines!

MooseBreath · 27/01/2020 07:41

Also Clement for a boy.

No end for the bullying, I'm sure, but it's a great name!

MooseBreath · 27/01/2020 07:38

Ksenia.
Love it, but in an English-speaking country, if you haven't heard it before (which is likely), there is zero percent chance of saying it right.

Zippetydoodahzippetyay · 27/01/2020 04:14

Agnieszka

It's a Polish name, apparently the polish version of Agnes. I like the way it sounds but it also has sentimental value - DH's paternal grandma was Agnes and his Mum was Polish so I would love to tribute both sides of his family by using it. However we live in a Australia and I know people wouldn't know how to say it if they see it written down, and wouldn't know how to spell it if the heard it. I don't want to saddle our daughter with constantly having to correct people.

NancyDrewCrew · 27/01/2020 02:20

Hunter
Honey

msatlantis · 27/01/2020 02:09

Girls -
Dolly
Valentine

Boys -
Murdo (I'm Scottish)
Cary

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 27/01/2020 02:04

Amadala is another one. My grandmother is Ama and grandfather Dale. This would be perfect for me but it's a Star Wars name.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 27/01/2020 02:02

I love Paloma but I worry people would think it's weird since I'm not of latina descent. Same with Lola.

I feel in the US we are braver with names! I see many of these and think they are totally reasonable!!

Jossina · 27/01/2020 01:15

Grace
Natalie
Abigail
Kathryn Katharine
Rachel
Dora
Deborah

For a boy. I'm sick of the sexist name double standard but realise the world would seriously need to change, otherwise it would just be a handicap for the poor boy.

NewMinouMinou · 26/01/2020 23:54

I was toying with Zenobia for DD’s middle name but thought some smart-arse would call her Xenophobia down the line.

As it is both DD and DS have very solid Northern European names.

goldenorbspider · 26/01/2020 20:20

Isis - unusable as a baby name now I think!

Yes it's such a shame, would make a lovely name

ikeakia · 26/01/2020 19:51

Oh, and another I’d use is Pelagia.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 26/01/2020 19:48

I’m well past having to think of baby names. But I have just decided that I’d call a boy Hal (obviously Henry in full). Dh thinks it’s horrendous.

Whattheother2catsprefer · 26/01/2020 19:44

@DramasticChanges too late. He's a tweenage Matt who couldn't be less like his name sale if he tried (Cuthbert was another nonstarter. DH is very unadventurous).
