I've been told name choices are unkind to DD on the way

We are expecting a sister for our DD Annie Coco.
We've had a little opposition to our favourite names for this one, but then none of my close relatives liked DD's name either but it gets a lot of compliments now and suits her down to the ground.

Would love thoughts on our current shortlist...

Ottilie (Would love to name her Ottilie Tiger and her pet name would be Tilly Tiger but I've been told this is cruel?)
Clementine
Sunny (would want to use Clementine as middle name for this)
Clover
Juniper (we just love the nn Junie)
Indigo (we love the nn Indie)
Mollie
Maggie

Have the confidence to Choose the name you like and stop telling people before the birth fgs.

Sleepforever · 24/01/2020 22:35

Tiger is a cat's name!
Clover is a cow's name,
Sunny is horrible
Clementine- look at song lyrics first - she would live with this song for ever more 😕

Firsttimemama2017 · 24/01/2020 22:33

I like all your names apart from sunny, especially with the middle name clementine.

Fave is probably Clementine or indigo

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 24/01/2020 22:32

There's nothing wrong with any of your names Confused

I suspect the criticism is coming from another generation as they are all very "now" names.

They need to be told they named their own children and asked how they would have received criticism of their choices

fjreflycaramel · 24/01/2020 22:31

Tilly Tiger is cruel, yes.
Indigo - google Indigo children. Maybe India instead but expect to be accused of cultural appropriation on MN.

Clover is a cow, Maggie is Maggie Thatcher (see also Clover)

Clementine is lovely, look at the lyrics for the song 'oh me darling Clementine though.

Sunny - Sunny side up!

MousematsRule · 24/01/2020 22:30

@hazandduck one of my relatives also said Clammy Clemmie! Which was just a bit gross

I love Maggie great name

tobee · 24/01/2020 22:28

How strange! I was just thinking what a great name Juniper was last night op, and surprised I'd not seen it on Mumsnet before! Smile

RachelRosie · 24/01/2020 22:28

I have a Maggie and have received no negative feedback from. Only met one other toddler Maggie in the last 3 years too so not to popular as opposed to Mollie.

The only name I am not keen on is Sunny. Indie is lovely!

Dustarr73 · 24/01/2020 22:27

I love Sunny such a cute name.Dont mind other people your dd .Thats why dont tell people the name before hand

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 24/01/2020 22:26

It doesn't matter what your family think.

I'd not choose any of the names personally however I'd never say that to a relative.

MsTSwift · 24/01/2020 22:26

Hmm be careful she may turn out to be a risk averse run with the crowd 13 year old and will hate Tilly tiger sunny etc. They don’t stay curly haired toddlers for very long. Would you yourself like to be called Tiger Tigger Sunny or similar? The other normal names are great. Reign it in is my advice

hazandduck · 24/01/2020 22:25

We have similar tastes, I love Clementine (nn Cleo), Ottilie and Coco. Indigo is lovely. I’ve had comments from people before when I’ve mentioned the above names especially Clementine which is silly as it is a perfectly normal name, people say “Phlegmy Clemmie!” 🙄 Lesson learned - don’t tell anyone what names you love!

People tend to be more polite when faced with an actual baby but so rude when it’s just a name you are considering, as if they can sway your choice!

maccaroni · 24/01/2020 22:25

All a bit try hard imo, sorry. Ottilie is a nice name in its own right and if you decide to shorten it later to Tilly then that's nice too, I wouldn't actually name my child Tilly Tiger, it sounds like a story book character and not in a good way.
Indigo and Juniper sound boyish, I'd go with India and shorten to Indie.
But actually its your baby so do what you want to do!

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 24/01/2020 22:21

It's the choice of middle names which make it sound silly If I'm being brutally honest - cute when she's a little girl - not so much when she's a grown woman working a professional job

Very fine line between cute and chavvy especially Tilly Tiger

MousematsRule · 24/01/2020 22:21

Thanks everyone, this feedback is a great help - it's giving me confidence in names I really like but also where to draw the line a bit. Appreciating it lots

I know an Indigo & thought it was a bit out there at first but now it's just perfect.
Ottilie is nice but Tilly tiger is pushing it for me anywhere other than at home....
Like Clem, don't like Sunny or Msghie. Prefer Juno to Juniper.
I do think they are all very different to Annie though if that concerns you.

ImportantWater · 24/01/2020 22:18

Personally I wouldn’t like to be called Sunny, but I think the other first names are lovely. Especially Clover. I have to say I would be mortified to have Tiger as a name though.

MousematsRule · 24/01/2020 22:16

I wouldn’t call a child Sunny. What if they grow up into a goth? They’d hate it (in fact it might push them towards gothdem).

We said that ourselves, what if we called her Sunny but she grew up to have the worst RBF

Also see the point about Tilly Tiger some people are making. Although in all honesty, Luna Pixie nearly made it on the list. Very Paula Yates. Think the hormones are making my taste a bit out there.

I love juniper

CurrynChips · 24/01/2020 22:12

Do you realise you can give her the 'pet name' Tilly tiger without actually formally naming her Tiger?

Tiger is awful.
Clementine and Sunny are almost as bad.

I like the rest. Favourite would be Juniper/ Ottilie.

EmptyOrchestra · 24/01/2020 22:11

I don’t particularly like Ottilie and I think using Tiger as a middle name is bordering on cruel to be honest. It sounds like something a c-list celebrity would choose. Plus you really can’t plan nicknames IMO - they just happen naturally or don’t. One of mine I assumed we’d use the shortened name for him but we just don’t - it weirdly doesn’t suit him. There’s no reason you couldn’t call her Tillie Tiger as a nn without it actually being on her birth certificate!

Indigo and Clover aren’t far off Tiger TBH.

Clementine is the best, and I like Juniper.

CountFosco · 24/01/2020 22:11

Like Ottilie, Clementine (my favourite of your choices), Molly and Margaret (nn Maggie, although I prefer Meg as a nn).

Ohyesiam · 24/01/2020 22:10

Apart from tiger, which is to much like a toy or pet’s name, your list is good.

You don’t have to hang out with your family. You can find like minded people to be with.

Congratulations on your new dd.
