I've been told name choices are unkind to DD on the way

We are expecting a sister for our DD Annie Coco.
We've had a little opposition to our favourite names for this one, but then none of my close relatives liked DD's name either but it gets a lot of compliments now and suits her down to the ground.

Would love thoughts on our current shortlist...

Ottilie (Would love to name her Ottilie Tiger and her pet name would be Tilly Tiger but I've been told this is cruel?)
Clementine
Sunny (would want to use Clementine as middle name for this)
Clover
Juniper (we just love the nn Junie)
Indigo (we love the nn Indie)
Mollie
Maggie

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
thegreylady · 24/01/2020 23:23

I like all of them though I prefer Clemency to Clementine.

PointlessUsername · 24/01/2020 23:23

Ottilie, Indigo and Clover are m

Formermousemat · 24/01/2020 23:21

I'm not keen on Sunny, because as others have pointed out it might not fit her personality.

I also think Clover sounds like a cows name. I'm sure there was a cartoon at some point with a cow called Clover.

Other then that I think they are lovely.

littlebillie · 24/01/2020 23:21

Just remember you are naming a baby but raising them to be grown up. They just sound twee especially if you project these on to a woman

HappyAndSmile · 24/01/2020 23:21

I don’t like Ottilie, sounds like oddly. Odd.

The rest are fine.

I prefer Matilda if you like Tilly. Matilda Tiger.

If you like Clover and Clementine then how about Claudia?

NeckPainChairSearch · 24/01/2020 23:20

Clementine is a beautiful name. I also like Ottilie.

Juniper is okay.

I'm not fond of the others really. Maggie is fine as a short name - I love Margot.

The Tiger/Tilly Tiger is a bit try-hard, if I'm honest.

DottyTheFrog · 24/01/2020 23:20

Haha just me then Grin it's not like OP was planning her first name to be tiger. Love all the names actually, except Clover. Clementine is my favourite.

Ceebs85 · 24/01/2020 23:18

Agree with those saying Tiger should be a little pet name rather than a birth certificate name but I do mostly like the others, except Sunny.

I've got a Luna with a very traditional middle name but call her my Luna Moon

Tillygetsit · 24/01/2020 23:18

I love Juniper. Ottilie makes me think of Utterly Butterly sorry.

Dustarr73 · 24/01/2020 23:16

Just call your dd what you want.Kids will always find something to tease over.

lowlandLucky · 24/01/2020 23:15

Tillie or Tiger but not together, it would be like naming your Daughter after a soft porn star

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 24/01/2020 23:14

Was going to say that Sunny (sp?) is a boy’s name in some Asian cultures.
I know a few Tilly’s (although I’d guess they’re Matilda rather than Ottilie).
Junie is cute, and I actually quite like that spelling of Mollie.
I have a boy with a pretty unusual name (Gaelic form of a common boy’s name) and I don’t regret it.

DottyTheFrog · 24/01/2020 23:14

Ottilie (Would love to name her Ottilie Tiger and her pet name would be Tilly Tiger but I've been told this is cruel?)

I LOVE this!

smellingofroses · 24/01/2020 23:13

Both my daughters have unusual names i chose them carefully to make them unique but not stupid/ silly, for obvious reasons I won't say what they are but I will say all love all those names you've picked.
I loved Soliel ( sun), Fleur and Otillie (Tillie ) for short they all made my list.
Do name them whatever you like people will comment but thats because they didn't have the guts to call their child something unique and beautifull 😉

Blimeyoreilly2020 · 24/01/2020 23:13

Only adding this as no one else has mentioned it but when I was at school the boys always took the mick out of the girls named Flora (there were 3) because ‘they spread easy’🤦🏼‍♀️...Clover would prob have the same connotations! I know a Tiger and an Inigo...both boys...but in this age of gender fluidity you can obvs go with what floats your boat...

edgewater · 24/01/2020 23:13

I had a dog called clover.

steppemum · 24/01/2020 23:12

OK, Tiger is awful as a 'real' name, perfectly lovely to use as a nickname at any point. (veyr cute for a little girl to be Tillie Tiger as a pet name, and 100% better than 'Princess')

Not keen on Sunny on girls or boys, very non name to me.

The rest are all lovely on their own. They all have a certain ring to them, without being daft.

But your link of middle names turns them a bit clownish.

On the other hand, middle names are pretty contained with close family/friends, your dd is known (I assume) as Annie, which is lovely and as an adult she can choose to be just Annie, which is classic and could be any sort of person, or to let people know she is Annie Coco which is much more off beat and requires a personality type to live up to.

So I wouldn't be that bothered by an unusual middle name, as long as the first is one that will carry her through.

Luzina · 24/01/2020 23:09

I've only met boys called Indigo.
I have however met 3 girls called Indie (all under 10)
I like Clementine and Maggie
Clover reminds me of the margarine
Molly is ok, not particularly interesting imo

How about Violet?

FlashesOfRage · 24/01/2020 23:09

All the “Sunny’s” I’ve taught were Muslim boys.

You have to imagine your child as an adult. Maybe as a politician, a lawyer, a teacher, a policewoman, a grown up professional... then decide if the name you are giving them will make other people judge them unfairly or take them less seriously before they even meet.

Ginfordinner · 24/01/2020 23:08

As a gin drinker I'm a bit Hmm about the name Juniper.

SoupDragon · 24/01/2020 23:07

Or the song for Clementine.

SoupDragon · 24/01/2020 23:07

I think our shortlisted shortlist probably looks like
Ottilie, Clementine, Clover, Maggie, Mollie, Indigo, Juniper

To me Clover is a cow's name and I can't get past the orange for Clementine.

lilgreen · 24/01/2020 23:05

Tiger is not really a child’s name IMO.

lilgreen · 24/01/2020 23:04

Ottilie is very very posh. Lots at Oxford uni I hear.

somm · 24/01/2020 23:03

As someone who's never gone by their first name (which is a very plain, simple one, going back hundreds of years in UK) I'd say it doesn't really matter what you call your child, if it's a name you like. The child can go on to call themselves whatever they like. But 'Sunny Clementine' makes me think of the juice I get in Tesco. 'Ottilie' is a name I've never heard of (not that that's a bad thing) and 'Tilly Tiger' - if that's your choice just go with it. When I'm addressed by my 'official' name I have to take a moment to think 'Oh yes, that's me'. I'm sure Sunny Clementine, Ottilie and Tilly Tiger would know straightaway that they were the ones being called into the GP's or dentist's surgery.
