Strong girls names- if I like these, what else might I like?

Really need to get some options for DD, due in April!

Contenders so far are:

Erica
Erin
Freya
Bethany/Bettany
Alexis

I'm hoping not to repeat our slight mistake with DS- we thought that Sebastian would be a relatively unusual but not too 'out there' name. Turns out it is one of the most popular boys names for his generation in our area of SW London! Confused

I don't think Freya or Bethany are strong names, more pretty than strong. Alexis is too close to Alexa, which is everywhere now. I think names like Ruth, Clara, Edith, Ariadne, Eliza, Darrell and Georgina sound strong, but it's quite subjective.

Can Elliott be a girls name? We had it on the short list (with one 't') for DS, but I've just seen it in a girls' name list.

*Dorothea

Dorathea (like Middlemarch heroine), Katherine (Hepburn), Scarlett (O’Hara...), Romola (another George Eliot reference)

Thistledew · 22/01/2020 21:23

Eliza and Evelyn are also contenders

Erica is my favourite out of your list. While I like Freya, it is very popular and has been for a while. Erin is nice but also slowly becoming more popular. I know two toddler Bethanys, though no idea of its general popularity.

I think if you want a strong female name, then don't pick a name that is a diminutive form of a male name. Find a girls name that is it's own to begin with.

Thistledew · 22/01/2020 21:20

I like Dominique.

Florence is a possibility for a middle name.
