Strong girls names- if I like these, what else might I like?

Really need to get some options for DD, due in April!

Contenders so far are:

Erica
Erin
Freya
Bethany/Bettany
Alexis

I'm hoping not to repeat our slight mistake with DS- we thought that Sebastian would be a relatively unusual but not too 'out there' name. Turns out it is one of the most popular boys names for his generation in our area of SW London! Confused

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Ava springs to mind

BabyItsAWildWorld · 22/01/2020 22:20

Helen

Anne

(won't be many Helens or Anne's at toddler group, definitely would be ahead of the curve on their revival!)

Penelope ( but not Penny)

Margaret (but not Maggie)

I have a Talia and before she was born thought it was a beautiful pretty feminine name. My Talia from the minute she could talk threw the dolls away and wanted dinosaurs. Now she’s one of strongest girls I know.

I also have a Bethany she’s a dainty wee thing to me that’s not a strong name. Go for Talia unusual but not whacky.

Elle

Albern · 22/01/2020 22:17

Gabriella

doyoueverfeellikea · 22/01/2020 22:17

Elle

NameChange30 · 22/01/2020 22:17

Hmmm. Like PPs I wouldn't call those strong names.

My idea of strong names for women:

Ada
Alexandra
Anna
Astrid
Elizabeth
Emma
Georgia
Grace
Helen
Joanna
Karen
Kate
Lyra
Margot
Nicole
Rachel
Ruth
Simone

StCharlotte · 22/01/2020 22:16

I love Honor.

Freya is lovely but pithy I think.

Bridget actually means "strong".

Thistledew · 22/01/2020 22:15

I like Honor

I've always loved Emily/Emilia but it's too close to another family name.

I know one Monica who is the most twee person I've ever met so that doesn't strike me as a strong name!

I like Erin the best from your list. We’re also due a girl in April and we have

Astrid
Margot
Bridget
Fearne

On our list.

Elliot is a girls name in my opinion, not one of choose but there’s no reason why you can’t!

MrsBertBibby · 22/01/2020 22:14

Ooh yes, Honor too.

MrsBertBibby · 22/01/2020 22:13

Tamsin
Edith
Briony
Favell

csmw · 22/01/2020 22:12

We are due in March and like

Aubrey
Darcey

We already have an Emilia Grace

RickOShay · 22/01/2020 22:11

Lois

Stella

Zara

Honor

Isolde

stophuggingme · 22/01/2020 22:06

Wallis

PhysaliaPhysalis · 22/01/2020 22:04

Monica

Sevo7 · 22/01/2020 22:04

I should add OP that I did similar with my 10 year old son and choose the name Louis which at the time I thought was really unusual but still a good solid name. When I joined his first baby group there were 6 other Louis’s Confused and now he’s in school he’s one of 8. I do love his name but I like something that stands out, I have a feeling I’ve achieved that with Alexis! Not sure whether that’s a good thing for her tho Blush

LadyOfTheCanyon · 22/01/2020 21:56

Strong names aren't always pretty. But they have power.

Andromeda
Artemis
Athena
Hera
Juno
Alexandra
Ursula
Brianna
Adira
Valencia
Bernadette
Kathleen
Blaise
Allanah
Catriona
Elspeth
Mhairi

Sevo7 · 22/01/2020 21:56

When I saw your thread title I was going to suggest Alexis and then saw it was on your list!

I have a 14 month old Alexis and nearly didn’t call her it because of the Alexa thing but it’s a name I’ve loved for years so went with it. Most people have been really positive and have said what a cool or strong name it is compared to lots of girls names at the moment and that it stands out from the crowd etc. It really suits my dd and I’m glad I stuck to my guns.

bridgetreilly · 22/01/2020 21:51

Erica is my favourite of your suggestions, but honestly your choices mostly seems to tend towards pretty rather than strong. Is that what you want?

And no, Elliot or Eliot or Elliott are not girls' names. Please don't use them.

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 22/01/2020 21:48

Meredith
Victoria
Polly

Tinty · 22/01/2020 21:45

A girl I know is called Ellis.

Cyberworrier · 22/01/2020 21:44

Anything can be a girls name if you want it to Be! I’m sure I’ve heard of female Elliott’s... could it be Eliot in honour of the inspiring female writer?!

Thistledew · 22/01/2020 21:42

I've got a family connection to the name Julianna, but don't really like the shortenings of Julie or Julia.

OP posts:
daisypond · 22/01/2020 21:39

I’d go either for a name from history or myth.
Otherwise, many old traditional names seem strong and simple because they are not cutesy.
Jane
Mary
Catherine
Margaret.
Anne. Anna.
Agnes.
