Strong girls names- if I like these, what else might I like?

Really need to get some options for DD, due in April!

Contenders so far are:

Erica
Erin
Freya
Bethany/Bettany
Alexis

I'm hoping not to repeat our slight mistake with DS- we thought that Sebastian would be a relatively unusual but not too 'out there' name. Turns out it is one of the most popular boys names for his generation in our area of SW London! Confused

Anastasia.
Is that a strong name.?

DaisyCutie3 · 31/01/2020 03:22

Anwen

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 30/01/2020 22:27

When I think of a strong girl name, I think of Athena or Victoria or Alexandria. Greek or Italian names for the win there!

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 30/01/2020 22:25

My name is Erin and it was popular in the 80s but I dont think anyone is using Erin these days. It was very popular to the point where I was never the only Erin in my class but I don't think that would be a problem nowadays! Otherwise it's a good name for being young and being an adult. Easy to spell, easy to say, easy to remember. I've grown to like and appreciate it. I dont think it's the most feminine name but it's short and sweet!

MikeAlphaMike · 30/01/2020 18:29

Erica - yes, quite unusual. Heather might be an alternative
Erin - ok but a bit nothingy
Freya - overpopulat
Bethany/Bettany - Bettany is a bit too surnamey, Bethany is nicer
Alexis -yes

If you like Welsh names how about

Angharad (can be shortened to Harry or Annie)
Alys (my daughter's name)
Anwen
Ffion
Bronwen or Bronwyn
Eirlys
Seren
Lowri

I also really like Alyth (pronounced A-lith), I think that's Scottish.

Good luck choosing! We didn't decide on a name until about three days before she was born! She was going to be Arwen or Anwen but none really quite fit. Then as soon as Alys was discovered we knew that was the one Smile

I have a Miranda and one of her teachers said it was a "hard name".
How about Margaret, Millicent, Marina, Edwina, Charlotte, Celeste, Estelle.

Harriet! Means ruler of the home so is pretty strong.

I tend to think of names with what I call 'definite endings' as sounding stronger than those ending with an 'uh' or 'ee' sound. I'd go for something along these lines...
Alice
Agnes
Astrid
Abigail
Beatrice
Bridget
Charlotte
Constance
Clementine
Ellen
Edith
Eloise
Elise
Evelyn
Emmeline
Florence
Harriet
Imogen
Iris
Isolde
Jasmine
Jocelyn
Josephine
Kate
Lauren
Louise
Meredith
Megan
Madeleine
Margot
Miriam
Olive
Rachel
Robyn
Rosalind
Ruth
Scout
Susan
Violet

Claudia? I don't like Elliot, Bettany, Dominique or Alexis, sorry OP. Erin, Bethany, Erica, Freya, Eliza and Evelyn are all really lovely though.

Musmerian · 23/01/2020 07:58

@Cyberworrier - I really wanted to call DD Dorothea but DH not keen. Chose Hester ( The Scarlet Letter) instead.
