Franklin

This has been my favourite name for years. I like the full name, and also the nicknames Frankie and Frank. I love names that are known, easy to read, easy to spell, and not 'unusual' per say, but also not super common. I don't really want my child to share their name with another child in their class (as much as can be avoided). So with that in mind... how many boys called Franklin/Frankie/Frank do you know? Trying to gauge how common these names are among children these days!

Franklin is a good solid underused name. Great choice.

I like Frank too (but hate Frankie - it's too twee)

NearLifeExperience · 31/01/2020 07:59

Really excellent name, OP, and certainly passes the high court judge test!

I have a Franklin who turns 6 this year. I love it, but hate any and all nicknames. I was not pleased when SIL addressed his Christmas present to Frankie!

jayde28 · 24/01/2020 10:52

I have a nephew on each side of my family (both from stepsisters) one called Frankie aged 18 months and one Franklin who is about to turn one.

Moonshine160 · 24/01/2020 10:46

Love the name, it’s also on my boy list. I don’t know of any.

FishCanFly · 24/01/2020 10:32

Only Franks i know are very old. I love the name.

mintich · 23/01/2020 08:52

I know a Franklyn who is 3

Disfordarkchocolate · 23/01/2020 08:50

I like it, it reminds me if the children's cartoon (one I actually liked watching).

bluemoon2468 · 23/01/2020 08:48

I'm so pleased with all of the positive responses towards the name! I just think it's adorable! And have managed to persuade DH to go for it I think (I said he could get final choice of the girl's name 😬)!

I don’t know any young Franks or Franklins but it is a great name, OP.

My grandad was Frank though (Francis)

Mammaaofxx · 22/01/2020 23:55

wishing4sun · 22/01/2020 23:51

I e worked in pre-school
For many years and have never had a frank frankie or franklin.....my cat was called franklin my ds chose the name when he was about 12.

WindyMiller1020 · 22/01/2020 23:42

Franklin is really cool!

Not personally keen on the nn options, but I'm not a fan of the "ie" names like frankie freddie ronnie reggie archie alfie etc etc

I know a couple of Frankie's but not many

Cindie943811A · 22/01/2020 23:31

The only Frank I have ever known was born about 1980 and it seemed strange calling this little baby boy Frank.
I think the chances of their being many others called that in your son’s class are remote! Good luck

bluemoon2468 · 21/01/2020 12:35

Cheers everyone 😊 it's one of the only names I've found where I like every possibly nickname, so I can let him decide as he grows up and I won't be upset! Also if there happens to be another Frank/Frankie/Franklin in his class he can always use a different nickname and avoid being surnamed.

I know an adult Franklin and a young Frank. I love just Frank without the longer form.

MopsRUs · 20/01/2020 20:59

I know of one young Frank. I like it as short for Francis, but Frank on its own is fine too.

LittleGreyElephant · 20/01/2020 20:51

My godson is Franklin. Always referred to as Frank, never Frankie. I don’t know of any others around here.

bluemoon2468 · 20/01/2020 20:22

Thanks everyone for your responses! Glad to hear that's it's quite uncommon (but not 'unique' or unheard of), and also that people generally like it! 😊
