Will be a brother to Charles, what do we think? Two months to go and really struggling. I think I like it but don't love it.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MrsP2015 · 16/01/2020 22:51

It's vile sorry.

What other choices have you got?

Ihaveamind · 16/01/2020 22:38

I'm Irish, in Ireland and know two young boys called Seamus. I think it might depend where you are how old fashioned it is.
I guess if your in England it can't be old fashioned as it was never new fashioned!
I really like it but I fancied a boy in the Gaeltacht called Seamie so I'm biased Grin

LittleDragonGirl · 16/01/2020 22:35

If you like Seamus go for it!
I actually happen to know quite a few young Seamus' (although with a few variations to its spelling) all under 30, so I would disagree with it being a old persons name, and worse case it can be shortened to Shay which is lovely!

MrsBobDylan · 16/01/2020 22:35

Love it, fabulous name.

Bedroomdilemma · 16/01/2020 22:34

I think it’s lovely with the connection to Heaney, it’s always nice when there’s a story behind a name. I quite like Seamus, and definitely like Sé/Shay. Know a 4 year old Seamus, maybe it’s making a come back!

ThePackAlpha · 16/01/2020 22:32

Yay- Its a very Irish sounding name, I just think its lovely.

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 16/01/2020 22:31

Captain Seamus Hook. Grin

James sometimes gets nicknamed Seamus or shamy here.

TurduckenFucken · 16/01/2020 22:31

I really like it. Whilst you’re getting all woolly jumper handsome, what about Hamish?

LolaLollypop · 16/01/2020 22:31

It reminds me of a greying old Irish man. My friend called her unborn baby Seamus as a joke whilst pregnant (they didn't knowbthus sex at the time) but when he was born they went with Samuel. Much better!!

happycamper11 · 16/01/2020 22:31

Shay is a great nickname

I've known a few Shay's. All girls!

happycamper11 · 16/01/2020 22:29

To me it sounds like a sturdy faithful old pony or perhaps a pirate at a stretch (one of the skivvys not like captain hook or anything) 😬

CallofDoodee · 16/01/2020 22:28

Sounds too much like semen

It's sounds nothing like semen 😂

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 16/01/2020 22:27

Cillmantain

Love it but I am biased as an Irish woman

I had the best summer holidays as a child in Wicklow! Brilliant memories.

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 16/01/2020 22:23

No it doesn’t. Seamus starts with a Sh sound, has an “aim” sound in the middle and ends with “us”

Yellowcakestand · 16/01/2020 22:22

My brother has changed his name to Seamus.

I work with an Irish Seamus.

I don't like the full name but the guy I work with calls himself Se (pronounced Shay), which I do like.

golddustwomen · 16/01/2020 22:22

Love it!

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 16/01/2020 22:20

Seamus is late 60’s, has greying curly strawberry blonde hair, a beard and a pipe. He leans back on the gate of the field with one foot perched on it while he has a yarn to mick sweeney through the door of his blue ford tractor. Shep sits at his feet.

Having said that, I love the name Seamus. Grin

CountFosco · 16/01/2020 22:20

Like the name, love the reason, but would it bother you that it's an 'old man' name in Ireland?

WoodliceInSunderland · 16/01/2020 22:19

Lovely name! 👍🏻

Not sure why anyone would think it would lead to bullying?

Noshowlomo · 16/01/2020 22:16

I LOVE it. I wanted to call my son Seamus but DH didn’t like it 🙁

PrincessHoneysuckle · 16/01/2020 22:15

InTheWalls · 16/01/2020 22:14

I love Seamus and would definitely use it!

Rosere · 16/01/2020 22:12

Not a Heaney fan myself but I love the name Seamus. Suits the whole lifespan I think. Baby Seamy right up to Seamus the 90 year old.

SleeplessWB · 16/01/2020 22:12

As a teacher I can honestly say I have never had a child say that someone has made fun of their name in 15 years of working in schools. Young people so not have the same preconceptions about names as adults do, and names are so diverse now that having an unusual name is just not an issue. I think with Seamus the problem is more likely to be people not knowing how to spell/say it.
