Which of these two names do you like best? Middle name would be Timothy.
Thanks :)

Jasper

Lavenderblues · 17/01/2020 08:15

Otto sounds awful!

I much prefer Jasper.

oohlalalala · 17/01/2020 07:49

Definitely Otto :)

Hippopotas · 17/01/2020 07:47

I like Jasper. Otto is very Germanic and also brings to mind the bus driver in the Simpson’s

HeronLanyon · 17/01/2020 07:31

gruffal with no current German links - a grandparent was German - I didn’t know that. I would assumed that as for me it is a ‘historic’ not current name. Interesting.

CeibaTree · 17/01/2020 07:21

What about Timothy as his first name?
That's not an option for us - we don't love the name Timothy (but we adored the person the naming would be after)

But no German would call their child Otto! It's such an old fashioned even comical name there.
We ran this past a close German friend and she agrees it was old fashioned, but making a bit of a come back - one of her school friends had just used the name for their son. I know what you mean though - I have the same thoughts about the name 'Wilbur' but I now know two little ones with that name and I don't think comical old man when I see them :)

Thanks again for your opinions everyone. Interesting that people have such different takes on the same names!

Definitely Otto. Absolutely love it

Grufallosfriends · 17/01/2020 07:11

I like Otto but for me it is such a German name I’d be surprised if family naming a child this didn’t have major German links

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 17/01/2020 06:56

Otto? As in the stoner schoolbus driver in The Simpsons?

happycamper11 · 17/01/2020 06:54

Definitely Jasper. Goes better with the middle name too

HeronLanyon · 17/01/2020 06:47

Von Bismarck!
I like Otto but for me it is such a German name I’d be surprised if family naming a child this didn’t have major German links. So what I guess.

Jasper - not keen - hugely lovely word but for me less lovely name.

Otto wins for me. It’s quite a name for a baby/child!
Congrats op.

LarkDescending · 17/01/2020 06:38

Jasper by a country mile.

There aren’t many names I hate, but Otto is one of them!

Chipmonkeypoopoo · 17/01/2020 06:21

Jasper. Otto does just reminds me of Ottoman Empire. Not happy associations for me. Although later King Otto was quite nice.

soundsystem · 17/01/2020 04:02

I love both! Otto just pips it does me, though. (Was too of my list for a long time but in the end I just couldn't: we have a German surname but aren't German; it would have been too weird)

Astronica · 17/01/2020 00:03

I much prefer Jasper.

Poorolddaddypig · 16/01/2020 22:55

Otto has too many Ts with Timothy although I love it! Jasper sounds better

TatianaLarina · 16/01/2020 22:54

Jasper. Otto is a Dalmatian.

LTEMercedes · 16/01/2020 22:53

Definitely jasper

I'm german and Otto makes me literally think of a fat, old grandpa. Sorry!

AdultHumanFemale · 16/01/2020 22:50

Otto, of course. Jasper sounds whimsical and a bit feeble, whereas Otto is strong and warm.

Buttercup54321 · 16/01/2020 22:43

What about Timothy as his first name?
Timothy Otto
Timothy Jasper
Prefer Jasper to Otto.
Otto reminds me of an Ottoman.

CeibaTree · 16/01/2020 22:18

I mean lots of names contain the letters T and/or R..

CeibaTree · 16/01/2020 22:17

@CustomerCervixDepartment surely you could say that about most names though?

daisypond · 16/01/2020 21:54

I’m not keen on Jasper. Otto is better.

sep30 · 16/01/2020 21:52

Love Otto 😍one of our top boy names x

Ellmau · 16/01/2020 21:36

Jasper's great.

Otto is very German to me; if you have German heritage or a special reason for picking it, fine, otherwise I wouldn't.
