Unusual girls names. Sister for Fern

MacnSue · 16/01/2020 12:35

Need some inspo.. 39 weeks pregnant and still no names that are clear winners. DD1 is Fern and a sister on her way.

I like unusual and often short names such as Wren, Willa, Nell, Juno etc. DH likes Darcey but is it too popular?

Thanks in advance!

Love Wren but I don't think it goes very well with Fern.
Robin
Sadie
Tess
Willow
Lark
Nell
Edie
June or Juno
Larch

Please don't go for Fern and Bracken, individually lovely, together they sound like dogs' names.

Marcipex · 17/01/2020 08:51

Eden as a pp said. Lovely name.

Marcipex · 17/01/2020 08:50

Fern is lovely but, sorry, Willa is awful and open to bullying.
I know a little girl called Leaf.
Rowan
Robin
Romy

What about Willow? It's my DD name so I love it

TeaAndStrumpets · 16/01/2020 23:31

Robin is a lovely unisex name. it sounds nicer than Romy.

WindyMiller1020 · 16/01/2020 23:27

The first name that popped into my head was Sadie!

littlealexhorne · 16/01/2020 23:25

Darcy is lovely but without the E. Also like PPs suggestions of Sylvie and Saskia.

Nell, Fern and Juno are on my ‘definitely maybe’ name list for a baby girl- we never thought we’d have another baby let alone a girl so we named our cat Pearl which would have almost certainly been the name we’d have used otherwise.

I’m totally with you on the short, 4 letter names. I don’t know why but it just feels right to me.

Other names I like are,
Suki
Sylvie
Alba
Ambra
Cora
Veda (vey-da, it’s the yoga teacher in me, Sanskrit for knowledge)

And then to totally buck the trend, Raphaella is up there but shortened to Rapha.

I really Willa too but we have a Wilf so that’s a no for us.

BlueEyedFloozy · 16/01/2020 16:25

For some reason my first thought seeing the title was Delilah but reading the OP it's probably way too long!

Mumma4262 · 16/01/2020 16:21

I like Romy. And yes, it is pronounced as you have asked.

Whatsyourflava · 16/01/2020 16:04

@MacnSue the 10yo Willa I know doesn’t get called Willy! William has the actual sound of the word Willy (Willi) within it and yet it’s considered one of the most sensible names there is!

MikeUniformMike · 16/01/2020 15:58

Fern is nice. Darcey is awful.

Poorolddaddypig · 16/01/2020 14:12

When I read the title I though Nell, Willa, Alma, Carrie, Tabitha or Tess - and then read the OP and saw that my first two were already on your list! They all have the same lovely, retro, rural feel to them. I have considered them all (along with Fern!) for my DD and went with one of them! I just love names with this sort of vibe - I can imagine them all as little girls 100 years ago living in beautiful quaint villages and running round in the sunshine in their old fashioned dresses. Grin Lovely!

daisypond · 16/01/2020 14:10

I like Willa but people will think Willow alongside Fern. I’d feel shortchanged if I was called Darcey or Wren if my sister had the much classier name of Fern. Romy is nice, and Juno is OK. Nell is nice. Zoe?

roiseandjim · 16/01/2020 13:52

I thought of Niall but I know it's a boys name. I like it for a girl though!? Am I mad

MacnSue · 16/01/2020 13:50

Thank you so much! I really like Etta and Romy too as suggested. I'm wondering if I've the correct pronunciation in my head - is it sounded 'Row-me' ?

I must admit Fern and Willa was a favourite of mine untill someone said she will get called willy at school 🙄

regularbutpanickingabit · 16/01/2020 13:37

Juno and Darcy are my favourite from your list. I wouldn't have Wren (although I love it) just because Wren and Fern sound quite stern together when they are both pretty names separately.
Or what about:
Romy
Etta
Willow
Lila

inwood · 16/01/2020 13:37

Love Romy
