Unusual girls names. Sister for Fern

MacnSue · 16/01/2020 12:35

Need some inspo.. 39 weeks pregnant and still no names that are clear winners. DD1 is Fern and a sister on her way.

I like unusual and often short names such as Wren, Willa, Nell, Juno etc. DH likes Darcey but is it too popular?

Thanks in advance!

The thing about not giving your dc a popular name is that you cannot guess what will happen with a name.
My parents gave my sister a very unusual and old fashioned name, 20 years later every second child seem to have it.
My son's name was pretty unusual when he was born and is now often listed as too popular to use a decade later.
Just pick the name you like best.

Love Wren, Sorrel, Orla, Clemmie, Ottilie - I like Willa too - popular in the states- I met a couple out there. I don’t know any in the UK.

Darcey is dreadful.

How about Tamsin?

Nell is fab, I'd go for a longer bc name with Nell as the nn, but I think it works as a standalone.

Daphne is great. Plant based but not obvious. Sorrel?

Divebar · 17/01/2020 11:06

Daphne ?

Why am I stood in this shop posting this?

Divebar · 17/01/2020 11:05

Delphine.

I think I have a thing for French names

Some awesome new ideas - especially like Eden, Cleo, Heidi and Roxy but I know girls with these names. Love willow too but felt too twee next to Fern with a strong forestry theme - so Willa was my soft alternative.

Nola was on my list at the start of pregnancy and I think I'll put it back in as a contender.

Wallace - love that it's strong and unusual but being Scottish it would defo seem a little less Wallace and grommit and more 'they may take our lives' Grin

Thanks so much everyone!

I really can’t see how Willa is open to bullying to be honest. No one seems to say this about William. The Willa I know isn’t bullied but an Emma I know is 🤷‍♀️ I don’t think you can ever predict. I live in a a pretty conservative (aka dull) area and there are all sorts of out there names here.
Fox, Wolf, Plum
Willa sounds very sensible in comparison

Anyway will keep thinking of other names

Do you like Roxanna Roxanne? (Names like Roman/Rowan are really common now so not the type of thing you’re looking for )
