I challenge you to suggest a name I've not already thought of...

I'm looking for a one-syllable name as the baby's second name will be long (double barrelled).

Boy's name.

Uncommon / not going to be too many of them either at school or in the media etc.

Names I've ruled out:

Things like:
John, Ben, Dan, Ed, etc (too boring, common amongst older people, 'around')

Things like:
Alfie, Albie, Ted, Wilf, Archie, (too popular)

Things like:
Bear, Fox, Snow, Thor (I kind of like them but they are a bit too much, iyswim)

Looking for a middle ground name. Uncommon, short, strong (not ending in "ie" sound) but not too wacky.

For example my favourite girl's name is Fern. (I quite like nature names).

The only boy's name I like is two syllables (Rohan- though could be shortened to Ro) but DH doesn't like it.

Any ideas for a name which fits the bill?

Van?

Every name belongs to someone else. Ridiculous not to use the name Joel for example just because of Billy Joel.
If you have a son called Joel, he will be all you think of!
I'm not saying you have to use Joel of course.

Chet, like Chet Baker or Gil, like Gil Scott-Heron

Whatsyourflava · 17/01/2020 15:49

Ok OP it’s a tricky one but it is best to remind yourself (as someone has already said) that No name is ever perfect.

If you pick Joel for example there’s no way you’ll be thinking about Billy Joel after the first week of holding your son

Namesetc · 17/01/2020 15:22

Also I don't see the point of shortening names - I'll just give it the shorter name to begin with.

@Whatsyourflava I gave Rohan as an example of the kind of name I like but it's not actually on our list as DH doesn't like it and I wanted one syllable. I'm struggling to see anything that jumps out. Not a fan of the boring (imo) names like Mark or John, and some names sound a bit dated, or just don't click e.g. Joel - reminds me of Billy Joel! This is hard!!

There's no name I've not seen before, apart from Wat - well done that pp! But I won't be going for that name perhaps unsurprisingly...

@Namesetc OP I’ve just re-read the intoduction to this thread and you are making me chuckle . You haven’t even stuck to your own rules. The only name you say you like (but DH doesn’t), is 2 syllables (not 1) and it (together with its variants) is really common and not in any way unusual sounding these days. 🤣
Anyway have we been of any help at all in this thread? I’m quite liking the idea of 1 syllable names by the way and am going to add some of these suggestions to my list (probably not Leaf though)
