I challenge you to suggest a name I've not already thought of...

I'm looking for a one-syllable name as the baby's second name will be long (double barrelled).

Boy's name.

Uncommon / not going to be too many of them either at school or in the media etc.

Names I've ruled out:

Things like:
John, Ben, Dan, Ed, etc (too boring, common amongst older people, 'around')

Things like:
Alfie, Albie, Ted, Wilf, Archie, (too popular)

Things like:
Bear, Fox, Snow, Thor (I kind of like them but they are a bit too much, iyswim)

Looking for a middle ground name. Uncommon, short, strong (not ending in "ie" sound) but not too wacky.

For example my favourite girl's name is Fern. (I quite like nature names).

The only boy's name I like is two syllables (Rohan- though could be shortened to Ro) but DH doesn't like it.

Any ideas for a name which fits the bill?

The only name DH and I could agree on in the end was Leo, if that's of any use to you.

Lars. I am so fussy about boys' names but I love Lars. Not at all keen on Myles/Miles. It "feels" snowy to me too because it's from somewhere Scandanavian.

How about

Eli, Ellis, Rudy/Rudi, Barney, Rafe, Rex

my baby daughter is called Rowan. I do still like the name but to be honest I do slightly regret my choice and think that if I’d come on Mumsnet for advise first I wouldn’t have chosen it. What I hadn’t factored in is that Roman (with an M) was last years fastest rising boys’ name. It’ll be top 10 soon on current trajectory. So you may think you’re choosing a fairly unusual name but “Roman” is so popular now and will sound very run of the mill to the next generation (the way Dave or Simon may sound to our generation for example). It’s frustrating because there’s two Roman’s at my daughters small nursery so when I phone up I have to say “I’m phoning about Rowan with a W”. I’ve had a mix up at the hospital recently too as there was a baby Roman in the waiting room and the staff got confused and I had to use my “no ....Rowan with a W” again. I can only see Roman continue to boom as Roman Kemp was on I’m A Celeb and there’s a famous blogger Roman Atwood with 5 million Instagram followers.ah well not the end of the world. All the Rohan’s I know are Indian by the way, it’s a traditionally Indian name I think. Rowan is becoming popular for girls if that bothers you, it’s predominantly a girls name in Scotland where it features in the top 100 lists for girls (and is climbing rapidly) but doesn’t feature for boys.

In answer to the syllables queries- surname has 6 syllables! So not two short words. Therefore very keen on a strong single syllable ending in a consonant sound if possible.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far... not seen anything I've not seen but having another think about some. Quite like the Fen suggestion....
