I really like the name Sadie but my husband says it's a pets name (dog/horse). Do you agree with him?

There’s a gorgeous little Sadie at our local school

Miranda79 · 14/01/2020 10:04

Nope, just listen to the song ‘Sadie the cleaning lady’ by John Farnham. That’s the only Sadie I have heard of!

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 14/01/2020 09:58

I think of marquid de Sade and Sadism... maybe not everyone does!

I met one recently and thought it was an awful name (just because I would think Sade and Sad.)

userabcname · 14/01/2020 09:55

I know a couple of teens called Sadie and a woman in her 30s. I don't think of it as a pet name at all.

DowntonCrabby · 14/01/2020 09:54

I love it

MintyMabel · 14/01/2020 09:51

I like it but that doesn't really matter. If OH hates it, probably best avoided.

Grufallosfriends · 14/01/2020 09:49

I just see Sad and Sadist when I see the name Sadie.

Poorolddaddypig · 14/01/2020 09:16

Although it does remind me of Sadie Mae Glutz, the Manson girl who was there the night of the Sharon Tate murder. Which is the only reason I didn’t consider it for my DD (had just finished reading the book about it when I found out I was pregnant!)

Poorolddaddypig · 14/01/2020 09:15

LOVE it

SaintGarbo · 14/01/2020 08:12

DS would have been Sadie.

Love it.

BigusBumus · 14/01/2020 07:32

terriblecustomercervix Haha doesn't surprise me at all that my MIL was talking shite. She always did! I'm glad it doesn't mean that, I've always loved the name- she obviously didn't and tried to make something up about it. Kind of typical of her tbh.

RoobyRoobyRooby · 14/01/2020 07:20

I adore Sadie. I think it’s so lovely and is a name that works well across ages.

whateverhappenstheremore · 14/01/2020 00:55

It's cute

Powerplant · 14/01/2020 00:52

Sorry but as a child our dog was called Sadie so not my first choice

MissPepper8 · 14/01/2020 00:36

I love it, also love other “old lady” names such as Connie, Nancy etc

I had great nana Sadie and Connie 😂

My nana Sadie, was actually a Sarah but everyone used her nickname and called her Sadie.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 13/01/2020 23:14

Bigus, your MIL was talking shite.

(I’m from NI with multiple great-aunties called Sadie)

millymae · 13/01/2020 23:05

I love Sadie - used to work with someone called this who has been registered as Mercedes.
As to it being a pet’s name, that wouldn’t bother me at all. Lots of people give their pets what I would call a human name nowadays.

BigusBumus · 13/01/2020 22:58

I wanted this 18 yrs ago when I was pregnant with DS. I'm pretty sure my MIL who was from Northern Ireland told me it meant slag or whore of something similar there 😕

TerribleCustomerCervix · 13/01/2020 22:47

I have a Sadhbh and tried to introduce Sadie as a nickname when she was tiny.

DH was having NONE of it.

So similarly to others, I love it, DH has no taste and vetoed.

RaininSummer · 13/01/2020 22:42

Nice. Makes me think of the Beatles track.

PlantPotting · 13/01/2020 22:41

I don’t see it as a pets name

I adore the name Sadie- it’s on my list

ButterflyRuns · 13/01/2020 21:09

I think it's a bad name but I don't think of a pet

fairynick · 13/01/2020 21:07

I love the name Sadie but I do also know a dog with the name!

TatianaLarina · 13/01/2020 21:07

I don’t love it but I don’t think it’s a pet’s name.

I don’t see sad I see (hear) Sadism.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 13/01/2020 21:04

Love but we already have one in the family so couldn’t use myself!
