DP and I have decided that we would like to name our daughter either Christina or Evelyn! Which one do you like the most?

Evelyn

Grufallosfriends · 17/01/2020 06:51

Christina is beautiful and interesting!

Evelyn is overused and a little dull, even if not shortened to the ubiquitous Eve or Evie.

My teenage dd has a 3 syllable name that never really gets shortened.

MsTSwift · 16/01/2020 22:04

God not another Eve. One to avoid. Every other girl has this name it gets terribly confusing. Be aware it’s this generation’s Sarah

Ibloodylovewomen · 15/01/2020 00:48

I know an Evelyn shortened to Ev, which I like.

robin04031402 · 14/01/2020 20:37

Ooo, I love how you pronounce Evelyn! I've only ever heard Eve-lyn
If you go for Evelyn she'll almost defintely have it shortened to Eve/Evie.
Christina is beautiful less commen and less likely to be shortened

roiseandjim · 14/01/2020 20:27

Evelyn 100%!

MopsRUs · 14/01/2020 19:57

Both lovely but Christina is more unusual. Or you could go for Evelina with Lina as nickname, since Eve/Ava/Eva/Evie have become so popular.

Horehound · 14/01/2020 19:52

My granny and my great aunt are Evelyn's and they've never been shortened.
I love the name!

AcrobaticCardigan · 14/01/2020 19:10

Evelyn for sure. I agree with a PP that Christina is very dated. It’s a bit 80s!

LTEMercedes · 14/01/2020 18:57

Christina !

PlantPotting · 14/01/2020 18:44

@Tangi88 op I’m sorry but both names are very likely to be shortened into nicknames. You can try your hardest to stop this and may have some success. It’ll be hard though. I have a friend Vicky who had a lifetime of trying to get people to call her victoria (hasn’t worked). Good luck. Oh and I prefer Evelyn

4amWitchingHour · 14/01/2020 18:35

Even if you don't use a nickname, everyone else will! Especially once she's a teenager

Tangi88 · 14/01/2020 18:31

Thank you all for the comments.

Most of you comment that Evelyn is popular and this would be an issue.

However, I was hoping that by keeping “Evelyn” as “Evelyn” and by not introducing a nickname, she would be kind of unique and not another Evie/Eva/Eve!

Is this not the case?

Christina on the other hand is much less popular, I agree. We would keep Christina as that though and we don’t plan to nickname her!

I prefer Christina.

DramaAlpaca · 12/01/2020 22:54

Christina. It's beautiful, but I'm not mad on any of the usual diminutives. The teenage one I know never shortens her name.

I like Evelyn pronounced the Irish way, EV-lyn, but it's apparently very popular nowadays.

Cbeebiesrehab · 12/01/2020 20:42

My daughter is Evelyn on her birth certificate (but doesn’t go by it) and although I know it’s statistically popular I haven’t heard of another one in our area (despite having heard of a few of her far more unusual diminutive)
Christina sounds quite dated to me and I don’t like Chris or Chrissie.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 12/01/2020 19:42

Christina, it's different these days, she would probably be the only one. My nan's name was Evelyn which I love but pronounced eve-lyn (as its spelt & as hers was) the other sounds American to me

Flymetothestars · 12/01/2020 19:41

Evelyn by a million miles

Christina just sounds like Chris with a frill at the end to make it a girls name. Like Philip and Phillipa. Sorry not a fan at all but love Evelyn

17caterpillars1mouse · 12/01/2020 19:35

I like Evelyn but Evie's ate everywhere. Its been used to the point of exhaustion in my opinion.

Love Christina, it feels fresh and different, in a good way. I quite like Chrissie as a nn and think Kit could work and would be cool and quirky on a girl, not Tina though

ButterflyRuns · 12/01/2020 18:33

Christina is pretty, not a fan of Evelyn

M0mmyneedswine · 12/01/2020 18:17

Christina as even if you dont shorten it yourselves Evelyn will become Evie or similar by friends at school

Thefaceofboe · 12/01/2020 18:05

Evelyn

BabloHoney · 12/01/2020 16:49

Love Christina, it’s due a comeback. Chrissie is cute for a little girl too

MikeUniformMike · 12/01/2020 16:49

Christina. It's nice. Chrissie, Christie or Tina are nice should it get shortened.
I don't like Evelyn at all, whichever way you say it.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 12/01/2020 16:43

Christina. It's a beautiful name and not yet another Eve/Eva/Evie/Evanna/Evelyn/Evalina (they are all currently pupils at my school, some in multiples)
