Feeling too low to name baby

Ahhhmythirddecade · 03/01/2020 20:09

Expecting DC2 and suffering from low mood.

We did have a name picked out but now I feel really meh about it and DC1s name is constantly being misspelt by DHs cousins and it only has 5 letters in it so the name we chosen for DC2 would be too complicated to spell. (It’s not uncommon at all)

DH wants to go ahead with the name but I’ve gone off it. We can’t agree on another name.

I’m only 20 weeks so loads of time but I had hoped maybe thinking of names would get me excited or cheer me up but now I’m feeling more deflated

That is a lovely list of names. How would you feel about parking it for a bit and then looking again.
Take care of yourself and I hope you feel better soon.

yabadabadontdoit · 06/01/2020 21:43

I know a Francesca known as Chessie, another idea for nn. Please speak to your midwife or gp about your mood. I was very depressed for most of one of my pregnancies, but was fine after the birth and completely fell in love at first sight with dd, and her name felt right, so don’t feel you won’t bond because of your mood now.

FluffyEggsontoast · 05/01/2020 21:56

Love the name Ottilie and Pearl
But don’t make any rash decisions

Whatsyourflava · 05/01/2020 21:12

I really love Ottilie or Ada or Pearl

Botanica · 05/01/2020 20:49

It's a really beautiful name.

I'd put it to one side and give yourselves a break from name discussions until you're feeling a little better. Plenty of time yet.

Hopefully when you come back to names in a few weeks or so, the name will feel fresh again and you'll feel more inspired by it.

Often we overthink things and it's easy to let this put us off our initial gut instinct.

AlpacaGoodnight · 05/01/2020 20:45

Francesca is a beautiful name, personally.I prefer Cesca as a shortening but that is just because Frankie for a girl (not as a shortening) has become very popular recently where I live

diddlediddle · 05/01/2020 03:51

Francesca is a gorgeous name. I love it and Frankie.

Park the naming for now and agree to come back to it nearer the time. Give yourself a break from thinking about it.

Then do somethings to help with your mood. It's a tough time.

You won't necessarily link the name to this time. You liked it previously too, and I'm sure you'll like it again x

Buttercup54321 · 05/01/2020 00:04

Frances?

Wishiknewtheanswer · 04/01/2020 22:31

I’m sorry to hear you’ve been feeling low OP. I just wanted to add that I didn’t choose the name we always wanted for our DS due to a low mood after he was born (it took us 4 weeks to name him), that name is now his middle name. I still often regret not giving him the original name we always wanted for him now I’m through that low feeling. Trust in What you loved originally I would say as generally that’s what you will come back to loving.

MopsRUs · 04/01/2020 01:03

Hope would be a great middle name for Francesca BTW Smile

MopsRUs · 04/01/2020 01:02

I know you're worried about linking the name with this low period, but that's the negative type of thought depression can cause, and it can be quite deceptive. Perhaps instead, you'll link the name to overcoming a difficult time, but by far the most likely is that you'll only link it with your child Smile

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/01/2020 00:22

I love Ottilie but it is probably Marmite! I still think Francesca is the best.

Ahhhmythirddecade · 04/01/2020 00:11

@MrsTerryPratchett

They were:
Melody
Hope
Pearl
Faith
Ada
Ottille

Let's hear the other names!

And you will just associate the name with her.

NoSauce · 03/01/2020 23:59

Wait a while. You’ve got time OP. Hope you feel better soon.

Katfood · 03/01/2020 21:39

Francesca is beautiful.

I know one with nickname Franci.

CuckooCachoo · 03/01/2020 21:39

I love Francesca!

How about Saskia or Susannah?

AntimonySalts · 03/01/2020 21:29

Francesca is a gorgeous name, OP. Don't be put off by the fact that some idiots can't spell. There are people on here who probably can't spell their own names, never mind anyone else's.

milliefiori · 03/01/2020 21:27

Francesca/Frankie are gorgeous names. But you don't need to decide now. See how you feel once the baby is born. A friend changed her DD's name after six months because it felt wrong.

Ahhhmythirddecade · 03/01/2020 21:26

Thanks all.

I’m worried that I’ll link her name with this low period if we do stick with that name.

I had given DH a list of names I had liked but he’s vetoed them all. He only wants Francesca. He also likes two other names which I don’t like so 🤷‍♀️

DingDongMerrilyOnThigh · 03/01/2020 21:24

ThanksFrancesca/Frankie is a good name/NN pair - if the cousins can't spell it (bearing in mind presumably they're getting older and capable of learning anyway?) does it really matter? But are there some other names you were thinking of, MN is pretty good at finding similar but different ones.

Whatsyourflava · 03/01/2020 21:22

So sorry you’re feeling low

I actually don’t like Francesca or Frankie but who cares what I think @Ahhhmythirddecade

Have you got any alternatives? If you haven’t really got any alternatives in your head then I’d definitely just stick with jt

17caterpillars1mouse · 03/01/2020 21:19

Francesca is a beautiful name, and well known. It was on our list for dd2. I like Frankie, prefer Cesca.

sugarisbitter · 03/01/2020 21:19

Ds was born in February and I didn't confirm his name or do his birth certificate until April.
It felt like such pressure, and then the spelling of the name was making it all to much with to many family members telling me what they liked and didn't.
It's perfect now and he suits it very well.
You know when you know so don't worry.
Plus you can change it up til a year Wink

TheQueensCousin · 03/01/2020 21:17

Francesca is a gorgeous name and don't worry my father couldn't even spell my name correctly!
