Ivy or Lillian?

mamablondie · 02/01/2020 19:45

Slowly narrowing down our girls list (I will stop posting I swear! It just took such a long time to agree on DD1)

Lillian would be nicknamed Lil/Lily

Ivy I just really like at the moment.

I love Ivy.

Prefer Lily to Lillian and as you'd call her Lily anyway I'd go with that.

Another one I like recently is Ada.

mumtobabygilrl · 03/01/2020 21:03

I love ivy - but then I also have one. It fitted for us as it's not too girly and I liked that it couldn't be shortened.

Dawninglory · 03/01/2020 21:00

Matilda, tilly or tilda for short.😊

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/01/2020 20:56

Lillian

MopsRUs · 03/01/2020 20:55

I prefer Ivy to Lillian, which sounds a little stuffy to me. I like Lily and Lilia though.

Roselilly36 · 03/01/2020 20:43

Ivy is lovely, I prefer it to Lillian.

mamablondie · 03/01/2020 20:39

@17caterpillars1mouse do you mind me asking what your daughters name is?

FixItUpChappie · 03/01/2020 19:43

Lillian - I really don't like Ivy personally

17caterpillars1mouse · 03/01/2020 19:38

Both are lovely.

I love Lillian, it's my dds middle name. I used it in the middle as I'm not a huge fan of Lily though. I do like Lil

Ivy is lovely but becoming very popular around here

MyCatScaresDogs · 03/01/2020 19:17

I like Lilian (spelled that way for preference). Not very keen on Ivy - I much prefer Iris.

Bananablueberry · 03/01/2020 18:51

I like Ivy and Lily, not keen on Lillian at all

Nikster11 · 03/01/2020 18:14

Love the name Ivy! X

june2007 · 03/01/2020 18:12

My mum uses a middle name. But I prefer Lillian to Ivy.

daisypond · 03/01/2020 17:40

I really like Lilian. Not keen on Ivy at all - poisonous or a weed. I also like Lily. But one of ones I know - now in her 20s- thinks Lily is too twee and now uses Lilian instead.

missmouse101 · 03/01/2020 17:09

Neither. Ivy is the least bad. Both sound dreary!

Cinammoncake · 03/01/2020 17:08

I love Sofia and Violet

I'd go for Lily over Lilian OP, much nicer imo

mamablondie · 03/01/2020 10:46

@MrsBertBibby

Sofia
Violet
Florence
Holly
Imogen
Matilda

DD1 is Ruby and we are settled on Arthur for a boy if that gives you some idea of what we like.

@bluemoon2468 I love the old fashioned, vintage sounding names also! I think they are quite marmite though you either love or hate them :)

PlaymobilPirate · 03/01/2020 10:22

My best friend is a Lilian. She hates it - growing up she was called 'Lillette'

OceanSunFish · 03/01/2020 10:20

Ivy - lovely name

bluemoon2468 · 03/01/2020 10:19

@NoSauce I literally love all of those names 😆

MrsBertBibby · 03/01/2020 10:06

What was the shortlist?

mamablondie · 03/01/2020 09:12

@MrsBertBibby any other suggestions if I like these two? It’s funny because DD1’s name is in the top 30 and I encounter far more of them than Lily’s. I do know what you mean though, I posted a shortlist a little while ago but I’ve just gone off a lot of them ... it’s so hard!

@june2007 does your mum use Lily instead then? My rationale is I like Lily but it is so so popular, I wanted to give her the option of using Lillian/Lilian should there be 5 other Lily’s in her class.

Ivy. Too many Lily/Lilian/Lilia/Lillee/Lilith
