Possible Name for Baby No7

Hi there, I posted a few weeks ago looking some advice for Baby No 7 - a girl - our current children are Ewan, Eilidh, Peter, Cait, Harry and Robbie.

I have been struggling to think of name - my beloved dad who died 11 years ago was called Terry - not a name I would pick for a boy but beginning to think Teri for a girl might be quite nice and a real tribute to my dad. Just not sure 🤔- had been think Teri Elizabeth after my dad and gran - our surname is short, Scottish and easy to pair with

I found this 3 year old thread today and decide to post that we didn’t call our now three year old daughter Terri after my dad but went for Theia Elizabeth - with the T as a slight nod to him (we call her T sometimes like we did him) and Elizabeth after my lovely granny (his mum). Love her name!

Beautiful!

Thanks so much x

Your kids names include mine and one of my brothers! I'll give you my other siblings names plus some other ideas my parents had:

Niamh
Calum
Cara
Duncan

by the time your DD is 10ish the 70/80s of Teri will have swung round into fashion - isn't that era for names on the edge of a comeback? I like Teri!

I'd be more conscious of the ear-snag of Teri Blair being a perfect mix of Tony & Cherie Blair but maybe - again in 10 yrs - that really won't matter either.

TildaTurnip · 02/01/2020 11:57

Tara is really nice as is Erin. I’m not at all keen on Teri and although doing it in memory of your dad is lovely, it wouldn’t be a name I would want. Teri Blair would sound like a nod to Cherie Blair too.

curiouscatgotkilled · 02/01/2020 11:57

I think that Teri is quite dated but not an awful name.

Im not a fan of giving the name of a loved relative to a baby, I feel that while it is nice to remember the relative with maybe a middle name or similar name, a baby deserves a name of their own.

Pebstk · 02/01/2020 11:50

My dad didn’t have any middle names -Teri would be in tribute to him so I would want to either use it or not, it is a name as a say I don’t mind - but not quite 100 per cent.

Other names I (DH suggested very little so far) quite like are:
Cara
Tara - as suggested by a poster
Emily
Emma
Erin

I find girls names a lot more difficult than boys. We have Eilidh and Cait - husband is Scottish

Our surname is Blair - which I think is a nice name and most names sound good with it

I taught a katerina who was a teri

mathanxiety · 02/01/2020 07:15

One of my DDs went to school with a Teru. (Pr. ter-OO)

It's Japanese (though this girl's mother was Filipino) and means 'brilliant'.

Cherrysherbet · 01/01/2020 23:57

I like Teri 😊 A lovely way to honour your Dad.

GrumpyHoonMain · 01/01/2020 23:52

How about hyphenating it eg Teri-May or Teri-Rose etc

VodselForDinner · 01/01/2020 23:49

Seven?

It was mentioned on another baby name thread lately.

littlealexhorne · 01/01/2020 23:47

I love Teri/Terri for a girl, and I wouldn't see it as chavvy at all

17caterpillars1mouse · 01/01/2020 22:05

I really don't like it at all sorry. It feels very 80s to me and as another poster has said, a bit chavvy

mathanxiety · 01/01/2020 21:20

Would Tara be out of the question?

mathanxiety · 01/01/2020 21:19

Did your dad have a middle name?

I think Terri/Terry/Teri are all very dated.

Inliverpool1 · 31/12/2019 21:28

Terri is lovely, I know a nice pharmacist I went to school with who’s just Terri

MopsRUs · 31/12/2019 19:30

Teri is fine - it worked for Teri Hatcher anyway.

I like Katerina for the BC with Teri as nickname, but if you just wanted Teri with no longer name, then go for it.

Terin, Tierra, Demeter, Terrilyn, Aster, Winter, Hester or Teriana could all have Teri as nickname too.

The best one I found (not necessarily for usability though!) was Terpsichore, a Greek name pronounced Terp-SIC-or-ee, meaning 'delight in dancing' and one of the 5 Muses Grin

Pebstk · 31/12/2019 18:20

Thank you for all the suggestions - I think it has clarified for me we would either go with just Terri or Teri or something else completely - the attraction to the name for me is it is my dad’s name rather than a name I absolutely love in it’s own right but more want to check that generally people don’t seem to think it’s horrible or dated for a baby girl

Tessa is very pretty, Teri isn't. I would say it's a bit chavvy.

Jessbow · 31/12/2019 18:11

Terina?
Teryn

florascotia2 · 31/12/2019 17:52

This may be a bit over the top, OP, but there is an Ancient Roman name 'Terentia'.
It's the female version of Terentius, which is, of course, the origin of the modern male name Terence/Terry.

Teri would be a very good short version.

Ellecrawford · 31/12/2019 15:50

I think Teri is fine for a girl 💗 other names similar to Teri u could consider ..

Tillie
Tallie
Matilda (tildie for short)
