Do you like the name Seven for a girl?

My husband and I are curious as to how the first name Seven would be for a girl. The number is significant to us biblically and means the number of completeness, as she will be completing our family. There are many other reasons behind Seven.

Is it too out there, or is it cool?

Thanks for any input! Smile

It’s fun and quirky, but what will it be like when she is thirty or fifty?

This is our branch manager seven?

This is the ceo of the company seven?

Every time her name is read out people will snigger and stare or check they have heard correctly.

It’s a big burden to place on someone, she might have a huge personality and be able to pull it off, but she might be an ordinary person with a really odd name.

Could you use it as a middle name or a nickname?

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 30/12/2019 10:07

I like Gemma.

PhoneLock · 30/12/2019 10:07

It's a no from me, although it is marginally better than that Sore Arse name from another thread.

Cbeebiesrehab · 30/12/2019 10:06

I taught a boy with a sister called Severn (like the river) and always thought it an odd choice. I also taught a Teal-she was a cute little thing but constantly had a snotty nose and unbrushed hair-strange the things you remember. I don’t particularly like Teal but I think it’s better than Gemma which I find very dated.

Itsigginingtolookalotlikexmas · 30/12/2019 10:06

There are loads of biblical names you could look at instead

Candymay · 30/12/2019 10:04

Oh gosh. Teal is even worse than 7. And Gemma is very dated and uninteresting. Sorry.

MyDcAreMarvel · 30/12/2019 10:03

Gemma is blah but at least it’s an actual name .

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 30/12/2019 10:03

Just reminds me of the film,so it's a no from me.

StartingAgainID · 30/12/2019 10:01

I misread and wondered why you'd call your daughter Sven. Is she your 7th child? Otherwise..... bit odd. But I've taught worse. Maybe middle name to avoid her having to repeat the naming explanation she'll be asked for A LOT as a grownup? But ultimately - she's your kid. Do what you like.

BillywilliamV · 30/12/2019 10:01

I am a big fan of onehundredandfour myself..

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 30/12/2019 10:00

No

Momniscient · 30/12/2019 09:58

Not to mention there's a very large group of people who will bring out their best strictly judge impression and say it with a flourish... "Se-VEN!" and of course, "I AM NOT A NUMBER, I AM A FREE MAN". It's a no from me for Seven. Unless you have six other children and are bored of naming them already Grin

Teal is abysmal, sorry.

Gemma is a nice name.

Have you tried a name generator site where you can put in names you like and it'll suggest others? Sounds like you could do with some more inspiration.

TenThousandSpoons · 30/12/2019 09:53

Friends is actually very popular with tweens at the moment so her friends would probably see the Monica “seven” episode.

Egghead68 · 30/12/2019 09:51

No.

FairytaleofBykerGrove · 30/12/2019 09:51

Gemma is a nice name. It is a bit 80s but so what? It’s pretty and it’s a real name. Go with that.

Palavah · 30/12/2019 09:51

I don't think Teal's that bad. Is it a family surname?

You could try Teasel - it's a flowering plant.
Or Tenille - I'm not a fan of it but I've heard it used as a girl's name in Australia, and has the same sound.

PrettyPurpleFeather · 30/12/2019 09:47

I would repeat my advice again, introduce yourself as Teal to your community. Try & open a bank account or complete forms named as Teal. Try and experience life as someone called Teal before you inflict this name or any other on your child. Consider this advice before you name your child.

strawberry2017 · 30/12/2019 09:47

It's not a name it's a number

domesticslattern · 30/12/2019 09:45

Makes me think of Stranger Things' Eleven.
Not good connotations for a baby!

Ollypollydolly · 30/12/2019 09:45

what is your award winning name choice then?
No need to get funny dear. You post on these threads for opinions, right? I gave you my opinion. Surely you’d rather hear these things now than once the baby has been named?

Kazplus2 · 30/12/2019 09:44

Really naff. Everyone's trying too hard to come up with different names these days.

Modernhistorybuff · 30/12/2019 09:40

Seven is awful, sorry.
I quite like Teal for a middle name but not as a first name.
Gemma.. so 80s.
There are so many beautiful and unusual names out there.....

RipleysCat · 30/12/2019 09:39

It was an amazing film Grin

TweaksDadsHat · 30/12/2019 09:37

As soon as I read it, i heard Monica from friends shouting it out. Would be a bit strange if you were shouting you were shouting her name a few times to get her attention! Although her peers wouldn't likely get the Friends reference all these years later!

SushiGo · 30/12/2019 09:36

No. Numbers instead of names is dehumanising. It makes me think of concentration camps (and the borg).

Even your reasoning is not about the child having their own identity but about how they complete things for you. I'm sure that's not how you feel overall, but if you name her that way it'll be depressing when she finds out.

Bit depressing and shit for the kid.
