Do you like the name Seven for a girl?

My husband and I are curious as to how the first name Seven would be for a girl. The number is significant to us biblically and means the number of completeness, as she will be completing our family. There are many other reasons behind Seven.

Is it too out there, or is it cool?

Thanks for any input! Smile

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
RoseMartha · 30/12/2019 10:33

No.

TiddlestheCat · 30/12/2019 10:33

It sounds like a child out of Stranger Things.

MirriMazDuur · 30/12/2019 10:31

I like Hepta.

Crabonastick · 30/12/2019 10:29

My DD1’s middle name is Seven. Wouldn’t have considered it for a first name though. She has a very normal (though not Mumsnet approved!) first name. She never even uses her middle name and doesn’t even know it’s her middle name. Put it there if you must but don’t inflict it on your child as a first name!

Dollymixture22 · 30/12/2019 10:29

Also, why is it okay to say teal is an awful name?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 30/12/2019 10:28

If you really want to use the name how about Hepta? It is seven in Ancient Greek which is the language a lot of the New Testament is written in and it sounds more like a name.

I would use it as a middle name though.

@MyKingdomForBrie I thought this was a thread asking for comments about the name?

I commented that while it’s fun and quirky, the baby in question might find it challenging in later life. I wasn’t insinuating it would affect her career choices, I put her in the ceo position, just highlighted that the a me might make her feel self conscious. I also commented that it might not.

I am sorry if I caused offence to anyone. Others said no to he name, I merely expanded on why I was saying no.

I’m not old fashioned, the whole world snigger at celebrity names - remember the headlines over apple?

But people can name their children what they want - just don’t ask for opinions if you don’t actually want to hear them.

MarthasGinYard · 30/12/2019 10:27

Or

Gemteal

Really younique for a girl

MarthasGinYard · 30/12/2019 10:26

I'd go for it Op 'tis' younique

But combine the two and make

....Steal

That is a good un'

Itsigginingtolookalotlikexmas · 30/12/2019 10:25

Young people won't remember The Prisoner but they are likely to watch/hear of Stranger Things - the whole point of Eleven's name in this was she was just a number to the people who named her, she was not a "real" person.

spatchcock · 30/12/2019 10:22

“It's a very narrow minded view you have of the world there.“

And can I add old fashioned? The children in my dd’s class have such an incredible array of names. Times are changing, sneering at people’s names will hopefully go out of style too.

MyKingdomForBrie · 30/12/2019 10:19

Twiddle, aren’t you a lovely person

Think you'll find you're the one making a personal comment. However silly some may find the name (growing up in the generation she will be really no one will find it silly - names are really becoming much more flexible and unusual) it really will not affect her career choices. It's a very narrow minded view you have of the world there.

NewInTown08 · 30/12/2019 10:18

No, it's not cool.

Selinespeak · 30/12/2019 10:17

Dh suggested this years ago when we were expecting our first dc, he saw it on Seinfeld Hmm

MarianaMoatedGrange · 30/12/2019 10:16

Gemma is so 1980s and Teal is awful as a name.

Lyricallie · 30/12/2019 10:16

As a 90s Gemma (not 80s lol) I'm a fan of Gemma.

Elindab · 30/12/2019 10:15

Gemma is lovely.

DingDongMerrilyOnThigh · 30/12/2019 10:14

Colours are used as names (Blue, Scarlet...) but duck names .... no, Teal doesn't really work. Gemma is ok, can have NN Gem.

Nuff said on Seven; re I taught a boy with a sister called Severn (like the river) and always thought it an odd choice ... I do hope she wasn't a bore... poor kid.

Hmm dd2's name isn't even top 1000! It is a name though, not a colour or number.

Dollymixture22 · 30/12/2019 10:13

Twiddle, aren’t you a lovely person😂

Merry Christmas

Ollypollydolly · 30/12/2019 10:13

You could do a Jacob Rees-Mogg and Latin it up to be Septima?!
I actually like Septima Grin

TwiddleMuff · 30/12/2019 10:11

“This is the ceo of the company seven?“

Oh good god not this tired old shite again.

If Dr Marijuana Pepsi Vandyck can get away with it, I’m sure Seven can style it out as CEO.

MrsJakeLovell · 30/12/2019 10:11

Wink
Do you like the name Seven for a girl?
Dollymixture22 · 30/12/2019 10:10

I think Gemma is a lovely name, not dated (I don’t think names can be dated, why do they have to be trendy? The names that are trendy today will be dated in a decade).

spatchcock · 30/12/2019 10:09

“not unique and freethinking at all.“

Maybe people give these names not to be unique but because they like it?

But then again, I will never understand the British name snobbery.

Seven is great OP. I wouldn’t use it, but that’s not the point - call her what you like. And don’t consult with MN - everyone here goes for top 100 names.
