Matilda, Elsie and Connie

Last post I promise! Which do you prefer and why? Matilda, Elsie or Connie?

Any first and middle name combinations you think would sound nice from these names? Think I'd like Matilda to be in there somewhere.

Big brother Noah.

Thank you!

We have a Matilda (5 months), none in any of the baby groups I go to. We also call her Matti.

TildaTurnip · 01/01/2020 22:46

But still not very popular per 100 born.

Castoreum · 01/01/2020 18:36

Yes, but Matilda has been popular for more than ten years whereas Elsie hasn't. There are way more Matildas around. I can't see Elsie lasting as long as Matilda as a trend, tbh.

In 2018:
Matilda-31st (0.25%)
Elsie-22nd (0.28%)

So Elsie is more popular very slightly but both not overly popular at all.

I much prefer Matilda.

Ikeameatballs · 31/12/2019 22:19

I love Matilda but i think it’s the most popular.

Matilda Mary
Matilda Jean
Matilda Katherine
Matilda Frances
Matilda Susan
Matilda Poppy
Matilda Robyn

Engard · 31/12/2019 22:11

I love Connie and wanted it if my second was a girl however, I was told it's slang for condom and it ruined it for me Sad

DialANumber · 30/12/2019 12:58

I'm not over keen on Elsie though it's nice for a little girl I think. I'm really not a fan of Connie at all!

Matilda is a nice name with good nickname choices but there are an awful lot of them about. My dc know many of varying ages through school and dance classes etc.

Castoreum · 30/12/2019 12:52

Matilda has been popular for about fifteen years now so there are an awful lot of them around. Elsie and Connie are more unusual. I suspect Connie is due a revival as a nickname for Constance.

FluffyEggsontoast · 30/12/2019 12:51

I like Elsie too but don’t like Constance - it sounds like constipation to me 🤣

FluffyEggsontoast · 30/12/2019 12:50

Matilda definitely

MikeUniformMike · 30/12/2019 12:41

Connie.
Matilda is overused and Elsie's not very pretty.
Constance is lovely.

Astronica · 30/12/2019 11:25

Matilda is my favourite. Matilda Connie sounds good.

Lllot5 · 30/12/2019 10:43

I like all three my mum is Elsie and she’s 91. Definitely making a comeback.
Mathilda
Constance
Elsie
In that order of preference for me.

Dollymixture22 · 30/12/2019 10:40

While I love Matilda (childhood memories of the film), Connie is actually a great name. Unusual and striking.

I would go with Connie.

IVflytrap · 29/12/2019 23:48

Connie as it's less common, but really all three are good names. I like Constance as a first name, with Connie the nickname.

Middle name combinations, using some variations on the names:

Constance Matilda
Matilda Elspeth
Matilda Constance
Elsie Matilda
Elsie Constanzia
Elizabeth Constance
Connie Elizabeth

Ellecrawford · 29/12/2019 23:42

I love all three of these names! Elsie has always been one of my favourites but is starting to get more popular! Matilda is so beautiful and could be shortened down to tildy (which personally I think is really sweet) and Connie is stunning .. good luck from picking out of this gorgeous list😂💖

ParsleyPot · 29/12/2019 23:36

Matilda

Elsie is not great. I just think 'Elsie Tanner'.

Connie needs to be a diminutive for Cornelia, Constance or similar.

Rumboogie · 29/12/2019 23:30

Love all of them, especially Elsie

YourOpinionIsNoted · 29/12/2019 22:52

Constance.

Loads of little Matildas round our way.

Tillymintsmama · 29/12/2019 22:49

The old names are coming back... I know an Elsie who is 12, a Violet who is 4, an Iris who is 5. My daughter, 11, is a Matilda, shortened mostly to Tilly.

Don't like Connie.

marjoretta · 29/12/2019 22:39

Matilda is by far the best name, and has lots of options too .. Tilly and Tilda are both cute, should she decide she prefers a nickname.

Chocmallows · 29/12/2019 22:36

Love them all. In preference, Matilda (Tilly), Constance (Connie) then Elsie.

RoseMartha · 29/12/2019 22:34

I like Connie

Modernhistorybuff · 29/12/2019 22:25

I love Elsie but prefer Elspeth as the full name.
Ditto with Connie/Constance.
Matilda is nice enough but very popular.
I'd go with Elspeth Matilda myself.

DramaAlpaca · 29/12/2019 22:18

Matilda.

Elsie is dreary and twee and I don't like Connie - but I adore Constance.

Matilda Constance, as a pp suggested.
