Maeve, Margot or Greta?

Fussy husband and I have finally agreed on a shortlist of three names that we BOTH really like - it's a miracle!

Maeve
Margot
Greta

I'm very excited about these three, and expect I'll keep changing my mind on my favourite right up until the birth. I don't think I really mind which we go with. Curious as to which one everyone else on here prefers...

It’ll be hard not to see Greta as a nod to Greta Thunberg this year- quite a lot for a baby to live up to?! . And yes be aware, Margot is really on trend but fine if that’s ok with you. I like the look of Maeve but out loud it’s a bit tricky to say clearly and quickly? I also like these older names but I reckon keep searching you might find one close to these you also like. I found I change my choice right up to meeting the baby. It really does work to imagine it in different scenarios- yelling the name for a toddler in the park, saying it quickly on the phone to a call centre, announcing it as a newsreader or at a job interview Grin

Love them all, especially Margot.

@HotSince82
Surely the Greta Thunberg association is positive, no?

TheReluctantCountess · 29/12/2019 20:56

I think they’re all bad, sorry!

HairyToity · 29/12/2019 20:56

Love Margot and Greta

HelenaJustina · 29/12/2019 20:55

Love Maeve, know a gorgeous 19yr old one.

NaToth · 29/12/2019 20:53

Love Margot.

claptomania · 29/12/2019 20:49

I love all three! Which doesn’t help you at all, sorry. But you guys have great taste.

FourStarsShine · 29/12/2019 20:43

Margot is lovely, it was on our name list for ages!

Maeve and Greta - not keen.

popcorndiva · 29/12/2019 20:37

Greta would used to be associated with Greta Garbo now it's Greta Thunberg and her angry face.

I like Maeve and Margot though Margot seems quite popular at the moment

Posieandjosie · 29/12/2019 20:33

@june2007 it’s pronounced like Mayv

Posieandjosie · 29/12/2019 20:32

Margot. Hate the others!

Mrswalliams1 · 29/12/2019 20:25

I’m sorry but my first thought when I saw the names are “they sound like a pack of goats”.

As you can probably tell, I’m not a fan

june2007 · 29/12/2019 20:18

Never too sure how to pronounce Meave. I Also not keen on short versions as Margot is short for Margaret and Greta of course Gretchen. (I prefer Gretel as a shortned version if any.) But if you must I,d say Margot.

yadayadayesokay · 29/12/2019 20:17

Maeve is lovely

PandancerandRabbitoplh · 29/12/2019 20:13

Prefer Maeve

Margot makes me think of maggot and Greta seems like copying from Greta Thunberg.

trinity0097 · 29/12/2019 20:13

Greta just makes you think of that activist. Awful name for someone in this country.

wildthingsinthenight · 29/12/2019 20:12

Love Margot and love Maeve!

snowflakeeel · 29/12/2019 20:11

Love Margot. This has always been my favorite choice for a girl but spelt Margaux.

Krazynights34 · 29/12/2019 20:11

Love Margot!
Maeve is cute.
Not keen on Greta.

lunasunshine · 29/12/2019 20:10

I love them all! But Maeve is my favourite.

DramaAlpaca · 29/12/2019 20:09

Maeve is beautiful.

The other two are harsh sounding and hideous.

Sleepforever · 29/12/2019 20:07

But your daughter has to live with the geriatric ugly name that you admit is an acquired taste her whole life!!
I don't like any of them, but Margot is the best of the bunch.

tamarisk44 · 29/12/2019 20:03

I think they're definitely a bit of an acquired taste but there's something I really like about geriatric ugly names 😅

Margot is beautiful.

missjaysays · 29/12/2019 19:58

Maeve is beautiful, Margot second and I dislike Greta.

To me Greta sounds like a witches name... maybe my brain associates it with Hansel and Gretel?
