My favourites are Blair and Willa

FatherRabulaConundrum · 27/12/2019 17:00

Blair always sounds like 'blare' to me - blaring trumpets, blaring out, etc. It's not a nice word, even without the PM/Witch Project connotations.

Coco, Silver, Indigo, Lola and India sound like lapdancer madeupnames or cockerpoos.

Olivia & Isla are pretty and classic but very popular right now, if that kind of thing bothers you.

Polly or Willa (if she doesn't mind saying, 'No, not Willow, Willa' for 15 years) are the best of the bunch.

What about Molly or Susannah?

itsgettingweird · 27/12/2019 16:56

Indigo (NN- Indie) lovely
Blair I think of witch not Tony
Willa No! But love Willow
Coco more of a nn
Silver agree with others Sylvia or sylvie are much nicer
India ok
Lola I like it
Isla lovely but popular
Olivia ok but popular
Olive not for me
Polly I like it!

Sewingbea · 27/12/2019 16:52

Indigo (NN- Indie)- will date terribly
Blair - Tony
Willa - Cather, author of "My Antonia", great book.
Coco - Channel, or a drink
Silver - nope, awful
India - rather dated, India Hicks etc
Lola - where's Charlie?
Isla- beautiful name
Olivia - classical, lovely
Olive - Popeye, spinach etc.
Polly - parrot's name.

You did ask for brutal honesty...

KatherineJaneway · 27/12/2019 16:46

Isla - Too popular
Olivia Ditto

sawyersfishbiscuits · 27/12/2019 15:35

Indigo - nice

Silver - quite cool
India - have you been there?
Lola - nice but v popular 10 years ago
Isla - pretty, reasonably popular Olivia - boring

OhTheRoses · 27/12/2019 15:09

If you want unusual

Xanthe
Hebe
Olympia
Fenella
Serina
Severine
Cecily
Christabel
Verity

VanyaHargreeves · 27/12/2019 15:09

My first reaction to Blair was that you'd got it from Gossip Girl and many of these names seem a bit Sleb Inspired and will date

Absolute no to Lola, Coco, Indigo and Silver all of which sound like strippers

Willa Cather is a great writer so Willa

BobbyBlueCat · 27/12/2019 15:00

Indigo (NN- Indie) - Nice
Blair - Harsh sounding. Sounds like you're being sick or playing Mallet's Mallet. Blair Witch.
Willa - Willy. She'd get her head kicked in at some secondary schools with a name like that.
Coco - New money. Thick. Trying to hard.
Silver - Kind of like it.
India - Nice.
Lola - Porn star.
Isla - Open to mispronunciation. Looks ugly written down.
Olivia - Nice.
Olive - Oil. Black bullets that taste nasty.
Polly - Nice.

BreatheAndFocus · 27/12/2019 14:51

I think they’re all ok apart from:

Blair - awful, for all the reasons given above
Silver - “Hi Ho, Silver”, a horse’s name (The Lone Ranger)

Coco - I’m not so keen on this but dont dislike it. Just thinking of the potential for silly nicknames.

My favourites are Polly, Isla, Olivia and Indigo.

Butterflyflower1234 · 27/12/2019 14:47

Indigo (NN- Indie) -By 02
Blair - White Project
Willa - Wonga
Coco - Chanel
Silver - Fox
India - Country
Lola - La La La Laaa Lola
Isla - I like (it's on my list too)
Olivia - Yes classic name
Olive - Where's Popeye?
Polly - Wants a cracker

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 27/12/2019 14:47

Olive is cute. Also like Isla and Willa
Not keen on the name Polly - sounds prim

Some of your options are too 'out there' for me. What if your kid grows up to be a quiet kind of kid who hates the statement name they've been lumbered with?

Roselilly36 · 27/12/2019 14:43

I love the name Polly

PlantPotting · 27/12/2019 14:42

Indigo (NN- Indie) - LOVE

Blair - awful. Also think of Tony and he’s a war criminal and responsible for deaths. Sorry but I could never give my child a name that has so many negative connotations for me.

Willa - Love. One of my favourite names of all time. A very good friend has a “Willa” - Willa loves her name and has never had any problems with it. It’s been mistaken for Willow a couple of times when she was little but rarely happens now, especially once someone sees it written down.

Coco - it’s ok
Silver - too try hard. I’d feel silly introducing

India - love
Lola - Love
Isla - Love (much less common than it used to be 10 years ago)
Olivia - Love
Olive - love
Polly - Love (joint favourite). Also love Holly

MikeUniformMike · 27/12/2019 14:39

Inigo is a boy's name. Indigo is a colour.
Blair is a surname, and is too closely linked with a recent PM. I have heard of it as a girl's name but it's more a noise than name.

MikeUniformMike · 27/12/2019 14:36

Indigo (NN- Indie) - no
Blair - Tony
Willa - no
Coco - no, sounds like a dog's name
Silver - no, too Lone Ranger
India - no
Lola - no
Isla - overused, a nice name ruined
Olivia - overused, a nice name ruined
Olive - Oil
Polly - lovely

donquixotedelamancha · 27/12/2019 14:34

I like Indigo!

Are you sure? Inigo is a great name. Indigo is silly.

MopsRUs · 27/12/2019 14:32

I think people do have long memories and no-one is calling their baby Thatcher either.

NobJobWinker · 27/12/2019 14:32

@skiiboot They are all lovely names which explains the popularity!

Polly is gorgeous. No issues with spelling or pronunciation. Pretty but not as overtly 'girly' as Molly or Holly. Suits babies, children & adults equally!

MopsRUs · 27/12/2019 14:30

I like Coco, Indigo and Olivia best.

Indigo (NN- Indie) - quite like
Blair - unpleasant politician
Willa - OK, prefer Willow
Coco - quite cool, not one I'd use but it's fine
Silver - Long John. Sylvia or Sylvina are nice though
Olivia - very nice, popular though if that makes any difference?
Not particularly keen on India, Isla, Lola, Olive, Polly.

TheClausSeason · 27/12/2019 14:27

Possibly not, though he is currently in the news and does keep turning up like a bad penny. Even without that association though, I don't like the name. It's like the noise you make when something tastes bad. Blair, bleurgh, bleck...

skiboot · 27/12/2019 14:27

I know @NobJobWinker
Actually Isla, Olivia and Lola were all DH’s original ideas and I quite like them so went along Grin

OP posts:
IckleBear · 27/12/2019 14:27

I like Indigo!

Aquilla · 27/12/2019 14:26

Polly wins.
I also like Willa but a bit too different sounding.
Coco is a stripper's name!
