Just wondering what unusual ‘only met one’ names people had come across in their lives?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Penguin34 · 28/12/2019 21:22

My nans old next door neighbour was called Arthur brain

Spidey66 · 28/12/2019 21:04

Jessmay sounds like an Asian name.

Spidey66 · 28/12/2019 21:03

A lot of Africans have names like Admire, Blessing, Sweet, Divine, Freedom. I've worked with many over the years and have got used to them.

There was a thread on Netmums once, someone wanted to call their son J-cub (Jacob)

I've a cousin called Concepta mentioned earlier.

scrivette · 28/12/2019 20:57

Mrs, that's true, although DD's name is extremely unusual and many would say it's a word not a name!

MrsMillerbecameababy · 28/12/2019 20:43

scrivette one of my children's names wasn't listed on ONS the year he was born but it's a completely normal name, just not in fashion then - interestingly the French spelling of the same name has made a comeback in recent years and there are now a few of them 8 or 9 years younger than ours.

scrivette · 28/12/2019 20:33

I read the entire thread to see if DD's name was on there as she wasn't listed on ONS the year she was born.

Unusual names I have only heard of once or twice are, Jessemay, Clarence (love this), Henley, Thankgod, Zeyke.

WeshMaGueule · 28/12/2019 19:55

Emilienne is a normal French name, not a typo for Emmeline.

There's a Bruthnie-Nolan and a Sydney-Diorr in my son's class.

MillicentMartha · 28/12/2019 19:13

@cupprupe my cousin is called Eifion. North Welsh, he must be around 50yo. He’s the only one I’d ever heard of.

Notmymug · 28/12/2019 19:00

I know of a woman named Sarah who has a sister named Cinnamon, she said she has no idea why her parents went rogue with her sisters name!

Alltheprettyseahorses · 28/12/2019 18:53

I saw someone on the telly once called Paula Sunshine which I thought was really lovely. I have to say I really like a few names mentioned on this thread like Hero, Comfort, Precious and Blessing. Although tbh my own DD has the best name ever Grin.

littlealexhorne · 28/12/2019 18:43

Rainbow
Chermelda

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 28/12/2019 18:35

Do you think that is Biggy or Bee Gee?

Verily1 · 28/12/2019 18:21

Blanket has now requested to be known as Bigi- not a huge improvement

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 28/12/2019 18:21

Blanket is just a nickname. His real name is the far more sensible Prince Michael Jackson II 🤔

cupprupe · 28/12/2019 18:21

@escape cross post! I've not seen the tv show but I read the book several times (and cried my damn eyes out.)

cupprupe · 28/12/2019 18:20

There was also Roots in the 70's. Kuntakinte had a daughter and named her Kizzy.

escape · 28/12/2019 18:19

My mum wanted to call me Kizzi! (Late '70's) wasn't it a character from TV series 'Roots' ?

Haworthia · 28/12/2019 18:13

My sister looked after a boy called dasher spelled -er

Oh come on! The urban myth about the girl called Ladasha (spelled La-a) is absolutely ancient - this time its a boy Hmm

tenredthings · 28/12/2019 18:08

Blanket... I mean I know Michael Jackson was wacko but this baby is now a teenage boy with the stupidest name.

Heartofglass12345 · 28/12/2019 18:06

My sister looked after a boy called dasher spelled -er Confused

Livedandlearned · 28/12/2019 17:56

Brock and Red, they're brothers

myself2020 · 28/12/2019 17:50

Anastasia-Katharina, with a very long, double barrelled surname.
known as Katie...

StegosaurusRex · 28/12/2019 17:47

That's much nicer than how I was saying it. Thank you

FeigningHorror · 28/12/2019 17:23

@StegosaurusRex, Londubh is LON-duv or LUN-duv depending on region. The ‘d’ is soft, like the ‘th’ sound in ‘thou’.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 28/12/2019 17:06

I know of a McKayla. I'm guessing it's a younique spelling of Michaela Crown Hmm
