Just wondering what unusual ‘only met one’ names people had come across in their lives?

OP posts:

Meriel, I've actually recently come across a second one but for 40 years I only knew one.

Jubilee - I heard this being called and I can guess the birth year.

Brilliant - OK this was an adult, apparently his siblings had normal names.

Nye - worked with for a while

Squire - nope not a joke

Boniface

Nice - she's my dentist and is very nice.

I think it was on MN where a midwife said part of the job is smiling and saying 'lovely' when the parents say their chosen name. But one time she broke the rule, the chosen name was 'Jenna' which is a lovely name, but the parents surname was 'Taylor'.

I work with a Bronte (female). I was also at school with a girl called Domino.

Twin boys called Sargant and Major.

PixieDustt · 24/12/2019 04:29

Nevermind.

I wish I was joking. But I'm not.

MotherofKitties · 24/12/2019 04:28

Two sisters called Ocean and Spirit.

Their dad was as pretentious as they come.

custardbear · 24/12/2019 04:28

I know a Barley (adult in 30's) - I think it's a beautiful name

An ex colleague called their daughter Storm - not so keen on that!

Also a Bebe (like Phoebe with a 'b') but I've heard that a few times since she was born

My friends mum was a teacher and she had a child called Shaun Lamb - which I think was a bit 👀

Emilienne is surely just a misspelling of Emmeline...

It was spelt that way on the marriage certificate.

I have a Hero, it is obviously the coolest name 😂 but it really isn’t very unusual, sadly.
Also I saw Barley and Broccoli on another thread, wasn’t it just misheard Bali and Brockley? (Seeing as place names are so popular)

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/12/2019 03:47

I knew a Rockette as well. Named for a bassist.

mulutole · 24/12/2019 03:35

I know four Embers.

Ds was neatly called Maverick but we called him something different and I've only heard it once before (my Grandfather.)

Dh is the only one of his name that I know of. I'd never heard it before and not since.

There's only one other person with my name spelt the way it is in the world I know of.

We get VERY funny looks at passport control. Grin

bananahood · 24/12/2019 03:33

Oh forgot about Schwebb. Worked with a guy called that, he was an arsehole. He had a terrible surname too, it was a body part.

ifigoup · 24/12/2019 03:24

Berengere
Oriana
Kesella
Ronja
Nye
Bronte
Elessar
Keilah
Bronia
Horatia

All these are names of kids I’ve taught over the years.

polkadotpixie · 24/12/2019 03:20

My friend's Dad is called Gaylord

I also know someone who called their daughter Belle, their surname is Ball

My midwife said she delivered a L-A (Ladasha), not sure if I believe her or not though!

SleepWarrior · 24/12/2019 03:10

A midwife I know was chatting at a Christmas party last week and telling us all about the most unusual names she's come across. She mentioned La-a. I so badly wanted to say "come on you didn't actually see one yourself did you, you've just heard of it somewhere and it makes a great pretend story". I didn't though, because she's nice and I didn't want to make her (or me Grin) look silly in front of everyone for challenging it!

AmurderIsAnnounced · 24/12/2019 02:58

Brothers called K and J, yes just the letters Confused
Sisters called Letisha, Tanisha and Laquisha.

FoamingAtTheUterus · 24/12/2019 02:47

managedmis I shit you not .......this was about 20 years ago at DDS nursery.........I distinctly recall doing a backwards moonwalk ala MJ to check the name on the pegs........looking back it may have been spelt Brockley but was definitely pronounced Broccoli. And Barley was Barley.

Poor sods.
