My cousin has a Jesse. He's sweet and thoughtful and has made me really love the name. He's never had any teasing either and he's 9.

@Lulubelle15 we thought it would be an unique name until he started nursery and his best friend is called Jess-Lynn and then a new boy started in the baby room and he is called Jesse, I was like would AIBU to change nursery's lol my oldest is Harry and he is the only Harry in the whole school.

@Batmanandrobin123 the only name we liked was Jessica, and then when we found out we was having a boy, I liked Charlie but my OH has an usual name and suggested we still use Jesse and then they both would have the same initials JJ, it took me a bit to come round to the idea but then all my family members loved it and he really does suit the name, he is a spirited child and always on the go and I think he looks like he should be called Jesse :) plus we had to have fertility treatment to get him and Jesse means,,, gift from god,, this kind of sealed the deal for me then 💙

If there's one thing I hate, it's people peppering their speech or posts with welsh words like " hwyl", or god forbid " CWTCH".

Whatever the joke in GUYHUGH is, I don't get it. I like Guy and Hugh, and their Welsh versions Guto and Huw.

• I'm a Northener, and hwyl is just a word meaning fun - it doesn't have a special meaning, cwtch is South Walian and means sweet FA to me.

Now I appreciate what might, if you both weren't so bloody dense, be a reasonable point about the kind of 'casual' disparaging talk often aimed at Welsh/Welshness, which oooh isn't bigoted because only a joke etc.

But my jokey comment was directly referencing the spat immediately upthread on how to pronounce Dylan. So my 'joke' is that great, this name is not Welsh, so no annoying Welsh pronunciation issues for the amazing new name of GUYHUGH (are. you. seeing. the. joke. yet)

@Batmanandrobin123 yes it's positive I think when I say I have 2 kids Jesse and Harry, people assume I have a boy and girl and are surprised when I say no 2 boys and they say ah right, and then say Jesse is a lovely name, and then start telling me about Jesse lingard, Jesse metcarff etc oh and the famous Jesse James. I wasn't 100% on the name at first but then it grew on me and he suits the name now he is here.

I like Dylan I'm slightly biased though.

Most English people would know Cymru means Wales, from Plaid Cymru, and be able to make a good guess how the Y is said, even if you know no Welsh.

The point I was making OP is that if you choose Dylan, and anyone gives you a hard time for pronouncing it Dilan then you can tell them the most famous Dylan of all Wales (Dylan Thomas) pronounced his name like that. Also that lots and lots of Welsh Dylans are pronounced Dilan. Especially in South Wales.
You know it's probably a good thing that we're using the Welsh language on here, even if it does involve silly pedantic arguments about apostrophe use and word meaning in a sentence vs alone.
It's a second language learned at school for most people outside of rural farming communities, and different versions of it are taught in schools in the North and South. Nobody should be given shit for not having it as their first language, it's all the more impressive really when someone learns and uses a second language.
