Yay or nay

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
IVflytrap · 20/12/2019 18:34

Nah, whether it's your intention or not, it would look like you're using your child's name as an opportunity to make a political statement.

Jericho is a bit better, but still not great. How about these names, which have a similar feel/sound to me (just less political/place namey):

Joel
Xander
Jethro
Shiloh
Silas
Josiah
Zachariah
Asher
Ezekiel (Zeke)
Rafael
Solomon
Zephyr
Gabriel
Milo
Jago

Not that I pick names based on the fact they’re religious but all the names I like happen to be in the bible

Not Jewish. Was raised in a very strict Christian household but I’m agnostic now.
I do love religious names though

MyNewBearTotoro · 20/12/2019 18:30

I love it BUT I think it’s too political to actually use, sorry.

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 20/12/2019 18:30

Wow.

No.

daisypond · 20/12/2019 18:28

It’s very political and loaded.

Marcipex · 20/12/2019 18:28

Zain is great

Modernhistorybuff · 20/12/2019 18:28

No. Political implications are huge

Bjorksswandress · 20/12/2019 18:26

It’s a no from me too. I’m Jewish and wouldn’t call a DS that. I think it’s too loaded.
Jericho I’m not keen on either. It was burned down by the Israelites and is in Palestine which is also too loaded politically to name a child after unless you have some sort of an agenda or want to make some sort of statement. What about:
Zain
Zack
Jeremiah

bsc · 20/12/2019 18:26

It certainly makes a statement....but is it one that you want to make?

GlamGiraffe · 20/12/2019 18:23

Definitely not.
Too political. I wouldn't want my child ending up being drawn into endless debates and arguments about something they may have no interest or knowledge on because of the name they were given.

Ridiculousanx · 20/12/2019 18:20

Babylon would be such a cute baby name. Grin

chillykiwi · 20/12/2019 18:18

Boney M and Rivers of Babylon was my first thought too.
Are you Jewish? I'd probably assume you were.

Echobelly · 20/12/2019 18:15

It's nice in itself, but people may make assumptions about your political beliefs or accuse you of cultural appropriation if you're not Jewish or Rastafarian!

weebarra · 20/12/2019 18:13

No. Are you Jewish? It's loaded with political connotations.

Marrowfatpea · 20/12/2019 18:11

Definitely no.

MyBeloved · 20/12/2019 18:06

Love it. Beautiful, strong, meaningful and with deep roots.

wendywoopywoo222 · 20/12/2019 18:05

Zane or Dion.

Thoughtlessinengland · 20/12/2019 18:04

I am surprised you are needing to ask “why nay?” For Zion. Why do you think? Perhaps current connotations around Zionism....?

Leobynature · 20/12/2019 18:02

I love it. It’s was on my list 😊

JordanCatalano4Eva · 20/12/2019 18:02

Love it.

Yesterdayallmyfish · 20/12/2019 18:00

No way!

user1493494961 · 20/12/2019 17:59

And the walls came tumbling down.

TeacupDrama · 20/12/2019 17:53

I believe Luciana Berger the ex labour MP's son is called Zion

scarednamechange · 20/12/2019 17:51

What about Jericho
