Silver for a girl?

This was suggested to me on another post and I love it!

Thinking she could be Silvie for short if she wanted something more “normal”.

What do you think? I don’t mind brutal honesty.

Second choice right now is probably Rumer, or maybe just Rue.

Rumer is hideous!

Rumbelow · 19/12/2019 18:27

OK, as a nickname, then 🙄

Still mulling, thank you for the input!

Thinking she could be Silvie for short

How is that shorter than Silver?

SouthwarkSkaters · 19/12/2019 16:32

I’d advise against Silva personally - it’s my surname and I ended up taking DH’s surname when we got married because I was fed up of saying “no, not Silver”... Grin

CloudyVanilla · 19/12/2019 16:31

I do love Silver at first glance, but there is something about the idea of calling out Silver or having to say it more than once that puts me off? I do really like it apart from that though, so if you have Sylvie as a nickname I think it's great :)

FizzyGreenWater · 19/12/2019 16:23

Oh good lord yes!

Silver Smith Grin

Caselgarcia · 19/12/2019 13:16

It's a no from me, if she marries and takes his name she may end up with a crap name, Silver Brown or Silver Smith for example.

haverhill · 19/12/2019 13:14

Wood or forest apparently.

haverhill · 19/12/2019 13:13

Sylva? It means tree in Latin I believe.

FizzyGreenWater · 19/12/2019 13:10

Silver isn't actually that attractive a word though.

She'd possibly end up as Sil for short which is - another not very nice sound.

What's your local accent? Would she end up as Sil-vuh or Sil-vehhh?

Have to say there are a LOT of nicer names out there.

Devereux1 · 19/12/2019 11:08

Rumer makes me instantly picture big jaws with bright lipstick uncomfortably posing as if they're a goddess. And makes me think it's a typo.

ballsdeep · 19/12/2019 10:17

Rumer sounds like rimmer. Not good.

Poorolddaddypig · 19/12/2019 10:12

Oops! I mean and Sylvie Grin

Poorolddaddypig · 19/12/2019 10:11

Love Silver, Sylvia AND Sylvia

daisypond · 19/12/2019 06:45

I rather like it, but it’s a Romani name to me, so I’d assume you had a link. Definitely not Silva, which is a surname.

Hatscarfandgloves · 18/12/2019 23:33

Rumer is great. Rumer Godden was a great writer.
I really dislike the look of Silver but the pp's idea of Silva is much nicer. I'm usually a fan of unusual but traditional names but this one is actually good.

MazDazzle · 18/12/2019 22:25

Reminds me of the theme song from ‘Boon’. High ho Silver...

Katnissx · 18/12/2019 22:18

I love Silver for a girls name, reminds me of the character Silver from 90210 (I think that's why I like it so much!). Not so keen on Sylvie though makes me think of old ladies x

TheLastBiscuitInTheJar · 18/12/2019 14:02

Though I still have stronger horse associations.

TheLastBiscuitInTheJar · 18/12/2019 14:01

It sounds more like a stripper's name than Sylvie imho which sounds too sedate for a stripper.

ParkheadParadise · 18/12/2019 13:27

It's a No from me
I'm now singing this to dd she not impressed.

And it's high ho silver lining, anywhere you go now baby
I see your sun is shining
But I won't make a fuss, though it's obvious

Honeybee85 · 18/12/2019 13:26

@TheLastBiscuitInTheJar

Silver as a name for a stripper?
I’d name myself Diamond Dolly or Platinum Patty I were a stripper Grin

Winterdaysarehere · 18/12/2019 13:22

Hi ho...
Or ho ho (ho)??
Time to blame the hormones op.

TartanMarbled · 18/12/2019 13:18

Gorgeous

TatianaLarina · 18/12/2019 10:24

I quite like Silver which is odd as I don’t really like names that are not names.

Don’t like Sylvia though and the meaning/etymology is completely different.
