Gemma?

jfoyo26 · 10/12/2019 14:08

Another one my husband and I both agree on?

Sister to Louise

I know it's very 80's but is super super rare now, outside the top 1000 I think.

Can't use Emma as a family name, know some may suggest. -But prefer Gemma as a bit more unusual anyway

Thoughts though? Is it just too unusual now?

I think Jemma looks s bit classier.

diddlediddle · 11/12/2019 08:40

Vote for Jemma

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 11/12/2019 07:57

I also constantly have to correct people on the spelling of my name but I much prefer it to Gemma, somehow looks nicer but it's also spelt how it's pronounced

HalfBloodPrincess · 11/12/2019 07:20

I really like both Gemma and Jemma. Also love Jody, kirsty, claire

Astronica · 11/12/2019 06:52

I think Gemma is lovely and works very well for Louise's sister. Gemma has such a lovely classic quality being a name used for centuries (classic as a description is way over-used on this site but I think Gemma, in that it has been used for centuries, does fit the description). Dante's wife was Gemma I believe. Please don't modernise the spelling to Jemma as it really loses something I think.

MikeUniformMike · 10/12/2019 20:21

I like it but don't like Jenna.

It would be a refreshing change from all the vowel-heavy names, and L and V names that are popular.

ChickenBhuna · 10/12/2019 20:09

I totally opened this thread to see if people love or hate my name! I'm a Jemma from the 80s. Most people spell my name with a G and I have to correct them.

MoreBubbles · 10/12/2019 20:01

Jemima - nn Jemma is nice.

daisypond · 10/12/2019 19:27

I like it. It’s a medieval name.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 10/12/2019 19:13

I know an 18 year old Gemma, it's unusual but an established name. I think it's really pretty, and actually have a bit of a soft spot for the "mum names" of my generation, like Sarah, Jane, Claire, Victoria, Katie and Gemma.

MyNewBearTotoro · 10/12/2019 19:12

Even though the pronunciation is the same I much prefer Jemma. The G just looks ugly and a bit clunky to me because it’s the wrong sound. I also think Jemma somehow seems less dated.

SarahBeeney · 10/12/2019 19:09

It's a great name

Leopardprintboots · 10/12/2019 19:02

LobsterQuadrille2 · 10/12/2019 18:45

I think it's lovely but also prefer Jemma.

It's nice.

eddiemairswife · 10/12/2019 16:23

jfoyo26 Gemma has had quads, Maria is pregnant with Gary's child. Norris has returned (don't know for how long).

NoSauce · 10/12/2019 15:18

jfoyo26 · 10/12/2019 15:14

I don’t like the sound of it but. I love the now refreshing 80s vibe. It’s a cool sibling name for Louise. Definitely go for it.

Thetimetravelerswife · 10/12/2019 15:10

Sorry really dislike.
Louise is more of a classic than Gemma and less dated.

I have no idea why people on here are calling Gemma a classic?

Hannah suits Louise more.
As does Lucy...Emily...Sophie

Much nicer names that are not dated like Gemma.

eddiemairswife · 10/12/2019 14:35

I take it you don't watch Coronation Street!!
