Gemma?

Another one my husband and I both agree on?

Sister to Louise

I know it's very 80's but is super super rare now, outside the top 1000 I think.

Can't use Emma as a family name, know some may suggest. -But prefer Gemma as a bit more unusual anyway

Thoughts though? Is it just too unusual now?

I like it and prefer the G spelling over J.

SallyWD · 15/12/2019 22:18

I love it.

DickAmbush · 15/12/2019 21:57

Not keen, but that's probably because it's dated, but still too recently used to consider it a classic due for a revival, and because I've never personally met a nice Gemma/Jemma!

StanleyWalkersThirdWife · 15/12/2019 21:51

I like it!

Ethellsmum · 15/12/2019 21:47

I’m a Gemma from the 80s. I never realised it was that popular until nearly every mum in the nursery playground was called Gemma! Growing up I only knew another 1 or 2.

beanaseireann · 15/12/2019 09:41

The Gemnas I know are lovely and very popular. Smile

fedup21 · 14/12/2019 22:03

Love it!

JoGose · 14/12/2019 21:59

I like it

IdblowJonSnow · 14/12/2019 21:58

Really not keen. Sorry OP!

SemperIdem · 14/12/2019 21:54

Objectively it is a nice name and does it does sit well with Louise.

ThinkPink71 · 14/12/2019 13:16

Im not keen....I like Jemma or Jenna better. Sounds old fashioned in a geeky way.

FizzyGreenWater · 12/12/2019 12:47

I like it as I know a lovely Gemma.

It'll come back at some point!

As others have said it's also actually a very old classic name. So a good fit for Louise

FishCanFly · 12/12/2019 11:17

Sons of Anarchy character...very cool but truly horrible human being Grin

daisypond · 11/12/2019 21:18

It’s much better with a G to me, as that’s the original spelling from the Italian, and as it means gem, it’s the same in English too.

MummaOf2Nearly3 · 11/12/2019 21:15

Think it's a lovely name but better spelt with a J

needsomehelptoday · 11/12/2019 21:14

I'd love to know what the deleted post said

DonPablo · 11/12/2019 21:06

Have I missed a cultural reference there @SingleMumLabourVoter?

I currently teach 4 Gemmas aged between 11-14, and I know of a couple in the 6th form, so not that uncommon perhaps. I like it and think it goes well with Louise. All that matters is that you and your husband like it.

lotusbell · 11/12/2019 20:25

I'm an.80s child and Louise was definitely the most popular middle name!

FakeChristmasTreesaremynewnorm · 11/12/2019 20:22

I like it, prefer the G spelling with the suggestion of gemstones.

needsomehelptoday · 11/12/2019 20:19

Quite nice. I also like Rachel, Megan, Melanie, Jessica and Emma (I know you said you can't have it).

Bogoffrain · 11/12/2019 18:46

Ok if your surname isn’t Taylor

5LeafClover · 11/12/2019 18:44

I like Jemma and Gemma.

AJTracey · 11/12/2019 18:40

Gemma Collins was asking for a revival on her podcast. Sounds like its happening Grin
