Rumbelow · 09/12/2019 00:18

We seem to have a real thing for er-ending names for DD due early next year. On our tentative list right now are:

Piper
Clover
Rumer
Winter (due late Jan)
Aster
Vesper

As well as a few others, like Greta, Fern, Lumi, Rumi, Cleo.

Interested to hear your preferences and any other names we might like.

Thank you

Hebe and Thyra (pronounced Teer-a)

I like Clover and Piper very much.

Cyberworrier · 09/12/2019 21:29

Vesper is Catholic prayers in the evening.. and people will think Vespa the scooter. You have some really pretty alternatives, I wouldn’t burden a child with Vesper.
Silver is pretty and a nice idea.

I only like Cleo. And maybe fern.

What about Amber? Lyra? They've got the er sound you seem to be leaning towards? X

CatteStreet · 09/12/2019 20:55

Esther is a lovely name.

Of your names, I like Clover (of Katy fame, of course) and I quite like Rumer (thinking of Rumer Godden) but there may be silly jokes around rumours.

Vesper is a church service or (here in Germany) an afternoon/evening snack. Or, spelled slightly differently, a wasp or a moped.

TatianaLarina · 09/12/2019 20:47

Honor. Not er but sounds the same.

Boshmama · 09/12/2019 19:34

I like Aster - have you thought about River?

HuntingCuns · 09/12/2019 19:26

Please, don't call your daughter Piper. It will become the 'naughty' girls' name of the future.

It also seems that people who like the name Piper also like the name Harper, which is another one to avoid. Along with Parker (no, no, no) and Carter (why would anyone ever suggest this?)

I would agree with PP who suggested Hester. Hesper is also nice, but she would have a lifetime of saying "Hesper with a P in the middle", as everyone would think it was Hester.

In short, just call her Hester.

LoonyLunaLoo · 09/12/2019 19:20

I like Piper and Winter from your list but I love Harper too.

00100001 · 09/12/2019 19:10

Jennifer
Esther
Heather

bridgetreilly · 09/12/2019 19:01

I really like Clover and quite like Rumer.

Quizeerascal · 09/12/2019 18:55

Love Clover and quite like Piper and Greta. Esther is another good 'er' name as is Heather and Juniper or Juno

AnniePankettonne · 09/12/2019 11:35

Emer

Leopardprintboots · 09/12/2019 11:34

River is a great name

TLBftm · 09/12/2019 11:30

Haha yes Autumn I was thinking of viper 🤦🏻‍♀️

Harper is a beautiful name also and is ‘er’

romylee · 09/12/2019 11:30

I love love love Piper! Second choices would be Winter or Clover for me.

Rumbelow · 09/12/2019 10:56

I really like Hesper, River, Silver and Suri! Thanks Smile

I think my current faves are Piper, Rumer and Vesper, but I might add Silver to that list! I like that she could be Silvie for short if she wanted a more “normal” or “girly” name.

Esther
Hester

TempsPerdu · 09/12/2019 10:47

OP we seem to have quite similar taste - DD is Greta (this was pre-Greta Thunberg so definitely not named after her but we think she’s great so don’t mind the association). We still love her name.

Also seriously considered Clio, but I was set on this spelling and in the end we decided most people would just think ‘car’. Aster/Asta also made our shortlist but we were worried it would be heard as ‘Asda’! And I love both Clover and Winter but would probably only be brave enough to use them as middle names.

Otherwise I quite like Esther and Fern is OK. Not keen on Rumer, Vesper, Piper or Rumi/Lumi.

Sunshinegirl82 · 09/12/2019 10:25

How about Miranda?

Mulledwineinajug · 09/12/2019 10:03

Esther is lovely.

Leopardprintboots · 09/12/2019 10:01

Favourite is winter

Cbeebiesrehab · 09/12/2019 09:54

Vesper means evening star and holds a very special place in my heartStar

The only one I really don’t like is Rumer because it reminds me of rumour. Greta will be associated with Thunberg so worth thinking about, although that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
