Right, this seems to be our final shortlist...thoughtful and informed opinions are very welcome and any ideas for other great names. :-) Thank you!

  • Rufus
  • Rafael
  • Fabian (I'm aware of the link to the Fabian Society, but still love the name!)
  • Rory (late addition to the list and an acquaintance has recently called her baby this so not sure about using it...)

@NoGuarantee has your husband made any suggestions? How about Nathan (Nate)?

emilybrontescorsett · 07/12/2019 20:31

I like Raphael best, then Rufus.

NoGuarantee · 06/12/2019 15:06

My shortlist is

Herbert nn Herbie
Lonnie
Rafferty nn Rafe or Raffy
William
Frank

My husband has vetoed them all so far and our son is 5 days old so 🤷‍♂️

EleanorShellstrop100 · 06/12/2019 12:45

I love them all! (Not much help!)

AdaColeman · 06/12/2019 11:48

Rufus and Rory are my favourites.
Not at all keen on Rafael or Fabian.

What about
Rafe
Roman
Cosmo
Quentin

Rufus seems very polarising, but it's far and away my favourite. The others I'm not too keen on.

Whattodoabout · 06/12/2019 10:48

Love Rufus and Rory.

GU24Mum · 06/12/2019 09:18

I really like Rafael / Raphael and Fabian too. Rufus for me is more of a shaggy dog or someone with red hair. Rory is perfectly fine though I'd go for Fabian or Rafe first. I wanted something like that but OH completely dug his heels in and refused!

Grufallosfriends · 06/12/2019 08:32

Rory is very difficult to pronounce for people who have trouble with their Rs!

I like Fabian best. I also like Quentin or Reuben.

HavelockVetinari · 06/12/2019 08:19

All nice, but I prefer Balonz personally.

Leopardprintboots · 06/12/2019 08:17

@NoGuarantee on no! What’s your shortlist? I love Raffy too - could you just use that as his full name? Or Ralph would work with nn Raffy

Rainbowqueeen · 06/12/2019 06:40

Rufus and Rory would be my picks

NoGuarantee · 06/12/2019 06:38

Rafferty mm Raffy is my fav boy names. I have an unnamed 5 day old and my husband has vetoed it. I'm so sad about it!

MrsNoMopp · 06/12/2019 06:24

Rufus

TammyKat · 06/12/2019 00:50

I love Rory

soupforbrains · 06/12/2019 00:40

I like Rafael but prefer Rafferty

DramaAlpaca · 05/12/2019 23:24

Rory is my favourite by a long way, with Rafael in second place.

Wynston · 05/12/2019 22:58

What about raef?

Tillygetsit · 05/12/2019 22:45

I love Rufus and Rory.

Starfish83 · 05/12/2019 21:56

Goodness, thanks for your directness, MikeUniformMike! I’d be interested if you could elaborate on the reasoning behind your opinions on Rafael and Fabian? Not concerned about the dog association or speech difficulties (as the latter are wide-ranging and affect many names other than those which feature two ‘r’s).

  • Rufus - dog
  • Rafael - downmarket
  • Fabian (I'm aware of the link to the Fabian Society, but still love the name!) -- nn Fay
  • Rory - shit if you can't say r
Starfish83 · 05/12/2019 16:36

Ooh, loving the love for all the names! Why are boys name so hard?! I'm so stuck!

Thank you very much for all the thoughts so far and thanks to those who have suggested names - we've thought about each of these already and for some reason or other they've been vetoed.

Please keep coming with the opinions, folks! x

Rory is cute.

I like all your names a lot. Fabian is my favourite- definitely an English name.
