Hi,

Expecting dd1 in Dec!! Was keen on the name Amelie...however every time I mention it to people no one has ever heard of it?? Is it really that unknown? Worried that it’s too “weird” now.
How many Amelie’s do you know...and where are u based?

I’m pronouncing it like the “A” in Amelia and then “melly”

Ah-mel-LEE (it does sound very similar to emily but with an Ah sound instead of an Eh sound). Kind of like the difference between Emilia and Amelia...

Otherwise other option is Isla. Which do you prefer?

Thanks

I know two Amelies and two Islas - the Amelies are junior school age and the Islas are both toddlers. In the south east.

I think I prefer Isla, personally, but it’s close.

I know one, I think it is a lovely name but then I enjoyed the film of the same name.

It’s been popular for around 10 years now maybe more. It’s pretty but definitely not unusual!

There's a dozen Amelias in my kids' primary, along with a zillion Millie, Maya, Emily, Amaya, Emilia, Amelie variants.

I'd go for Isla, of which there's still at least four but more likely to get spelled and pronounced properly.
