Curious to see which people would choose Cecilia Violet or Cecily Violet? With an older sister called Aurora.

Love Cecily.

Thetimetravelerswife · 29/11/2019 19:24

Cecilia for me!

IwantedtobeEmmaPeel · 29/11/2019 19:23

You're absolutely right @LizzyMargaret, I don't look a day over 60; ahem 30. God I'd love to be 27 again.

I think either of your name choices would be lovely.

NuffingChora · 29/11/2019 19:14

Cecily. Or Cecile. Or Celine.

NoFun21 · 29/11/2019 19:14

Cecily is prettier.

LizzyMargaret · 29/11/2019 19:12

Or that sentence with the quotation mark in the correct place 😬😂

Well I agree with you both, @DramaAlpaca and @IwantedtobeEmmaPeel and I’m 27. I don’t think either of you are “showing your age at all” haha.

I'm sure Cecilia is the 'correct' (for want of a better word) spelling. Cecelia is a variant which is not as attractive to look at, IMO. I agree with Iwantedtobe EmmaPeel on the extra 'e' looking odd I'm a bit old too and loved Emma Peel

shivbo2014 · 29/11/2019 19:05

Love Cecily, would have the been my second child's name had he been a girl.

IwantedtobeEmmaPeel · 29/11/2019 19:02

Cecilia was the default spelling in my youth, but as I said I'm a bit old. The 'e' looks odd to me.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 29/11/2019 19:00

Aurora is a light and graceful name. Cecilia doesn't complement it very well in terms of feeling imo. Too formal sounding.

Cecily is lighter and complements it better. Just.

Prefer Cecily. It's a very pretty name. But if you're bothered about having children's names complementing each other, then I think there are names out there that match Aurora better.

LizzyMargaret · 29/11/2019 18:57

@DramaAlpaca I’m surprised Cecelia seems to be the default spelling. I always thought Cecilia was the original spelling? The extra e seems a bit unnecessary to me.

Cecily, definitely.

As is very clear from this thread, Cecilia will constantly be misspelled as Cecelia.

And it reminds me of the Simon & Garfunkel song, too which will be stuck in my head all evening now

LizzyMargaret · 29/11/2019 18:51

@IwantedtobeEmmaPeel I remember it as a Simon and Garfunkel song too.

@Geneve Cecily is Sehs-a-lee and Cicely is Siss-a-lee.

Celia or Cicely. BTW the song mentioned up thread is a Simon & Garfunkel song, written and performed by them years before Suggs. It is a great song and I'm showing my age and didn't realise that Suggs had covered the song. As you were Blush.

Geneve · 29/11/2019 18:33

The Cecily I know pronounces it Sicily, so what's the difference with Cicely which I assume is pronounced the same?

Soulstirring · 29/11/2019 18:31

I love both. I think Cecelia over Cecily though. I read a book with a Cecelia that was shortened to lia too

Enko · 29/11/2019 18:28

I btw do not think Cecilia and Aurora are alike in any way. If you yell the names out you use very different pronunciation so would not be an issue IMO.

I unlike many on this post really dont care much for Violet so would never use that over Cecilia

Enko · 29/11/2019 18:26

Cecilia is my favourite but I also like Cecily a lot. I personally prefer Celia but if I saw either name I would think "oh lovely"

ringme · 29/11/2019 17:45

Cecilia is lovely

TenThousandSpoons · 29/11/2019 17:44

I prefer Cecily to Cecilia. But far prefer Violet to both.

Mamabear88 · 29/11/2019 17:00

Cecelia is lovely, I vote that

LizzyMargaret · 29/11/2019 17:00

We do have other names on our list. Cecily and Cecilia are quite high up on it though. I was curious which of the two people would go for as Cecilia was our original thought but I had comments that it was too close to Aurora. Cecily was then added to the mix. I love both equally so I’m torn lol.

I'm no help because I love them all ... you cant go wrong!
