Curious to see which people would choose Cecilia Violet or Cecily Violet? With an older sister called Aurora.

Cecilia

Beautiful and classic, patron saint of music.

For the future, if she lived somewhere else, beautiful in French, Spanish, Italian etc...

Not common at all but not unknown.

CravingCheese · 30/11/2019 17:32

Cecilia Violet. It's gorgeous.
even lovelier than Penelope Violet.

Geneve · 30/11/2019 17:22

@LizzyMargaret that's what I would have thought but the Cecily I know definitely pronounces it with the initial siss sound, like Sicily. Or Cicely.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 30/11/2019 09:17

I love Cecilia: we thought about to for DD but it’s that bloomin song that I’ve got forever associated with it, damn you Simon, Garfunkel and Suggs too.

Cecily IMHO is super grand. I love it as well - it’s an ancient, regal, queenly name that would go with something more “new age” like Aurora.

MrsNoMopp · 30/11/2019 09:14

Cecilia is my favourite.

Cecily is a cross between cess and silly.

Love Cecily

Cecilia I think of that song... Cecilia your breaking my heart...

LizzyMargaret · 30/11/2019 09:08

Camilla isn’t one for us, sorry. Serena is quite nice but I think closer to Aurora than Cecilia. I do like Celeste but I think I’d feel compelled to name a possible third Luna or something lol. I do still much prefer Cecilia and Cecily but thank you for the suggestions!

Serena was a lovely suggestion. Goes brilliantly with Aurora, similar in sound to Cecilia but less prissy. Love it.

RedderAndRedder · 30/11/2019 02:08

Camilla?

Bettyhatesavocados · 30/11/2019 01:25

Have you considered Celeste? I like that better than Cecily or Cecilia.

BonBon411 · 30/11/2019 01:11

I love Cecily Violet.

minipie · 29/11/2019 23:08

Cecily, prefer it to Cecilia which is too fussy for me. AlsobIME four syllable names are almost always shortened but 3 syllable names are not always as are less of a mouthful. So if you don’t like the short forms, pick Cecily.

Alternatives: Selene is similar sounding and would go brilliantly with Aurora in terms of meanings. (I suppose it might get pronounced Seleen though...)?

Or Serena?

LizzyMargaret · 29/11/2019 22:49

@CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook That’s a lovely way of describing our Aura’s name :) I’ve always thought of Cecilia as quite girly and frilly which matches Aurora.

I find Aurora’s name quite difficult to match up with others. I’m quite curious to hear some suggestions based on just what you’d name a sister to Aurora. I’ll have to look it up!

Cecily is my favourite.

LizzyMargaret · 29/11/2019 22:38

@Thistly I pronounce the first syllable the same as Cecily - Sehs

suitepea · 29/11/2019 22:38

I've got a Cecelia although I think Cecily Violet goes better.

LizzyMargaret · 29/11/2019 22:33

@BringBiscuits Small world!

@TatianaLarina That’s my worry with Esmée or Esme. I think we’ve pretty much ruled it out. I don’t think we’ll face much confusion with it being in the middle spot as it won’t be used very often.

OP posts:
Thistly · 29/11/2019 22:31

But do you pronounce Cecilia the Italian way ?

TatianaLarina · 29/11/2019 22:28

Cecilia Violet is lovely.

Personally I can’t stand Penelope or Esmée - the latter isn’t practical as the e acute will get dropped off a lot (partly as people don’t know how to do it on their keyboard) and then it will get pronounced Es mee.

BringBiscuits · 29/11/2019 22:27

I know two sisters called cecilia and aurora. Both lovely names and quite unusual.

TatianaLarina · 29/11/2019 22:25

Much prefer Cecilia to Cecily which I find a bit twee.

I know a few Cecilias and they’re all spelt that way not Cecelia.

Modestandatinybitsexy · 29/11/2019 21:42

I much prefer Cecily. Actually added it to my list after your previous thread :)

LizzyMargaret · 29/11/2019 19:44

We are leaning towards using Violet as her middle name as Aurora has an honour name for her middle too but it is an option.

We also have Penelope Violet on our list. We’re torn on Esmée Violet too. If we use Violet as a first name then it’ll be Violet Esmée. I think there would be less spelling or pronunciation issues with Esmée in the middle spot. I was very torn on the spelling but after some ‘research’ it seems Esmée gets the Ehz-May pronunciation and is the feminine spelling?

Yes I agree @PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind I like fairly unusual names usually but not cicely not Cecelia and not Cecil.
Cess pit. Silly. Nah
Violet is lovely.

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 29/11/2019 19:29

I prefer Cecily, but to be honest I like Violet the best by miles!
