I love Francis. It's a family name and instead of wet and supercilious I hear strong but gentle. Lovely names.

Love Hugo, hate Francis.

There was a Francis thread recently. Very marmite.

I find it so sneery and just not a good boy name at all. Horrid mix of wet and supercilious at the same time.

Your little boy will be lovely whatever he's named. If you r moving in more middle class spheres, the names are fine as many names of this type but if not then if he's a bit sensitive, could be a target for banter etc ... just as names like Blaze etc may come in for banter in their own way in middle class schools .

I prefer Hugh to Hugo and Francis to me is a bit too close to Frances but I don’t think ‘uppity’ is a problem, it just depends on where you live and who your friends are :)

I know boy/girl siblings called Hugo and Frances. They mostly go by Huggy and Frankie and are not uppity at all.

They are both good, solid, strong names.

Also, neither of them end in 'ie' so that's another major plus for me.

Love them. They definitely sound more middle class but as long as they would fit that it’s fine and not “uppity” at all.

They’re fine names as long as they are always dressed in tweed and learn to shoot from a young age.
