Love hugo, not at all keen of Francis. But no, not uppity.

BellyButton85 · 30/11/2019 02:28

Bloody ridiculous

mathanxiety · 30/11/2019 01:53

I would think UMC RC.

Makinglists · 29/11/2019 19:28

Round here Hugo would be shortened to Hughie and Francis would be Frankie. Not so middle class now.

CravingCheese · 25/11/2019 11:58

I prefer Otto (or Milo) to Hugo tbh. But Hugo is also nice...
And Francis is great! It's a lovely name.

Whattodoabout · 25/11/2019 11:57

Not keen on either. Hugo does make me picture a Chelsea/Kensington snob and Francis is feeble.

Namaste6 · 25/11/2019 07:24

Love Hugo, not so sure about Francis.

Grufallosfriends · 25/11/2019 07:02

I know boys called Hugo, Quentin and Francis and they're lovely boys/teens.

Spied · 24/11/2019 16:33

Together they sound right the pairHmm

Spied · 24/11/2019 16:32

Hugo is lovely
Francis is awful

TeaAndStrumpets · 24/11/2019 16:30

In my Dad's family the oldest son was called Francis or Hugh in alternate generations, going back hundreds of years. These were Irish peasants, btw! Fashions change, Hugo is a nice alternative to Hugh but I don't see it as posh.

Starfish83 · 24/11/2019 16:05

Love them both. :-)

daisypond · 24/11/2019 12:44

Hm, they have posh vibes to me, heightened if they are together as a pair. I used to think Hugo was very posh - the only one I know is - but that’s changing now. Francis too. I want to like it, but the cis ending just makes me think sissy. One without the other would be better. Hugo and John. Or Francis and Hugh. But I really like that they don’t end in -ie.

CravingCheese · 24/11/2019 12:30

Not at all.
Two lovely and versatile names. At least imo.

EleanorShellstrop100 · 24/11/2019 10:07

They are quite made in Chelsea but I like them. I actually think Hugo on its own in amazing. Francis I like less as it feels a bit weak to me, but together they sound good.

MissHenty · 24/11/2019 09:48

The little Rupert I know lives on a council estate. Honestly working class people (like me) have adopted these names (Hugo etc) just like they did with Jack Wills clothes and Burberry! I love that these names can be used by anyone now @FriedasCarLoad

FriedasCarLoad · 24/11/2019 09:04

They’re not exactly working class names, tbf! I think they’re great names though.

MissHenty · 24/11/2019 09:00

Love Hugo
Don’t like Francis

How about Rupert? It’s not just a posh name anymore

HalfManHalfLabrador · 24/11/2019 03:31

What about Proudlock?

Staffori · 24/11/2019 02:43

Nice names and not too common. I say go for it.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 24/11/2019 01:32

Every Francis I know gets called Frank or Frankie.

RowenaMud · 24/11/2019 01:30

I grew up knowing a few boys named Francis. I don't like the name at all. It seems 'wet' and definitely not in any way uppity, its a very normal and perhaps nearer the opposite of uppity. It is a name I haven't heard since I left school until very recently when I came across a little Polish boy named Francis. It has very strong Catholic associations and perhaps the pope Francis has made the name more popular?

I also dislike Hugo as it seems very pretentious to my ears. I don't think it 'is' pretentious but I would view the parents of a boy named Hugo as very aspirational. I think Hugh is a great name.

bridgetreilly · 23/11/2019 23:14

They do both sound a bit upper middle class, but in a friendly sort of way.
