What do you guys think of the name Honor? I've always liked it but don't know if it's actually a good/nice name or not?! Definitely over thinking it Wink

Your feedback would be great x

This has really swung me to loving the name.

So is Hebe actually pronounced hee-bee? Never heard of it!

Interesting facts about this name

I love Hester too

LarkDescending · 24/11/2019 20:03

*in the UK

LarkDescending · 24/11/2019 20:02

Yes it’s traditionally spelt Honor on the UK, being an old name which was used long before the standardisation of the “honour” spelling of the vocabulary word c1800.

catsmother · 24/11/2019 19:40

I'm very very biased for outing reasons I won't go into here, let's just say i think it's a beautiful name for a little girl and I've never regretted my choice Wink

It's usually spelt ... for the name ... without the 'u' , even in the UK. My understanding is that it originally became popular as one of the 'virtue' names popular amongst Puritans in the 1600s.

IIRC, I think Tilda Swinton has a daughter called Honor. There's also a young actress called Honor Kneafsey who was in 'Our Zoo' a few years back. I really like the fact it's still considered an unusual name, but most people seem to like it and don't think it's outrageous or ridiculous.

MsTSwift · 24/11/2019 19:19

I like Hester too

MsTSwift · 24/11/2019 19:19

Love it. Don’t know any

lilgreen · 24/11/2019 19:19

Honoria to rhyme with gonorrhoea?

HorridHamble · 24/11/2019 19:19

I love it. Ticks all the boxes for me.

lilgreen · 24/11/2019 19:19

Hebe is awful. Hebe jeebies!

PolarCats · 24/11/2019 19:17

I like it but prefer Honoria (meaning woman of honour)

lilgreen · 24/11/2019 19:17

Down south it’s pronounced onor too! Hmm

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 24/11/2019 19:15

Round here up north it would be pronounced 'Onor but if you are southern I'd say its ok southerners wouldn't pronounce the H.

I've know a few, beautiful name.

june2007 · 24/11/2019 19:14

I surprised so many haven,t heard of it. Think of the actress Honour Blackman. (Miss Pussy Galore.)

RedRec · 24/11/2019 19:09

It is a beautiful name.

Cynara · 24/11/2019 19:06

I worked with an Australian Honor in my early 20s (in the UK). I'd never heard the name before but now associate it with a beautiful, intelligent woman. Lovely name and it was on my baby name list but DC was a boy.

Waxlyrically · 24/11/2019 19:02

I’m biased my Mum was called Honour ( spelt the English way).

june2007 · 24/11/2019 18:59

I would spell it Honour. Since were in the uk. But nice name.

commanderdalgliesh · 24/11/2019 18:55

Ended up with Anna which is close I suppose

commanderdalgliesh · 24/11/2019 18:54

I really like this and wanted it for my daughter but oh didn't like it.

FizzyGreenWater · 24/11/2019 18:37

I like it in theory, but to be honest I wouldn't use it - it's just a bit stern I think.

I'd go for Hebe which is similar but just has a nicer sound.

Maywedding · 24/11/2019 17:41

VenusClapTrap yes but a lot of the English language is not phonetically spelt.
I don't see this as an issue. But interesting point to Consider

VenusClapTrap · 24/11/2019 17:30

I’m not keen. I don’t think I’d want to be called a name that begins with a silent letter. It just seems... unnecessarily complicated.

Maywedding · 24/11/2019 12:46

Really pleased with the feedback. I didn't think it'd get such a positive reaction x
