Aurora?

I'm newly pregnant, so we don't know if we are having a boy or a girl.
We have one ds, Hector. We have quite a few ideas for boys' names, but can't agree on girls'.
The one name we both like is Aurora, nn Rory.
What do you think?
Is it chavvy or lovely? Is it too popular - the new Ella?
All opinions welcome.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hector is gorgeous!
And I love the middle name Blythe.
How about:
Antonia
Cecilia
Dorothea
Thea
Miranda
Tabitha
Rowena
Susannah
Meredith

Leonor is a Spanish name. It is actually the name of the future queen.
We wouldn't associate it with Lenor, but maybe it would be the case in the UK. Thanks -that is worth considering.

Octavia a beautiful. I've only ever met one and she is also beautiful. She's 5

17caterpillars1mouse · 25/11/2019 22:52

I really like Rory for a girl (definitely because of gilmore girls) but I just think Aurora sounds weak. I have met 3 Aurora's (1 9 year old and 2 toddlers) and I've not felt it suited any of them. Plus one dog (seems a weird name for a dog too)

Leopardprintboots · 25/11/2019 22:28

Leonor ?! Like Lenor? No way sorry

I vote Aurora nn Rory - love that name

TatianaLarina · 25/11/2019 22:03

Love Cosima.

Leonor is too like Lenor.

Moominfan · 25/11/2019 21:26

Leonor is lovely what about lenorah?

Liverbird77 · 25/11/2019 19:35

Thanks for your input, everyone.
We still have ages to decide but Aurora is defo the frontrunner at the moment.
Middle name under consideration is Blythe.
We both love the name and it works in both English and Spanish (dh is Spanish and we obviously have a Spanish surname).
Other names up for discussion:
Octavia
Leonor
Livia
Cosima ( he doesn't like it)

Aurora is beautiful

kittlesticks · 24/11/2019 02:45

If you like the nickname Rory why don't you go for Lorelei? For inspiration just watch the Gilmore Girls Grin

Staffori · 24/11/2019 02:39

It's beautiful and personally I don't think it's chavvy because the only Aurora I know is borne of a very posh Canadian lady.

dancingunicorns123 · 24/11/2019 01:28

I know of 3 auroras under 1 x

Evilmorty · 23/11/2019 23:28

I don’t like it because it takes a lot of lips to say it iyswim. It doesn’t just fly off the tongue.

Practicalmagico · 23/11/2019 23:27

I love Aurora

BubblesBuddy · 23/11/2019 23:26

You could consider Oriel, Aurelie, Aurielle?

Moominfan · 23/11/2019 15:51

Not keen on aurora but love Rory non

Leopardprintboots · 23/11/2019 15:42

@DramaAlpaca yes I think that’s right but the little girls name is definitely spelt Noah ❤️

Liverbird77 · 23/11/2019 15:33

I'm with you, @Leopardprintboots!

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 23/11/2019 14:35

Isn't the female version of Noah, Noa? Funnily enough I like Noa, but I detest Noah.

Emma for a boy has made me Grin

Leopardprintboots · 23/11/2019 14:25

I think Rory is a great nickname for a girl.
Ha. I know a little baby girl Noah.
No boys names are safe and I love it. Can’t wait for the day boys start using strong girls names like Emma. Maybe not in my lifetime but it’s coming

DramaAlpaca · 23/11/2019 14:22

Rory is a boys' name & it sounds ridiculous on a girl. It's a male name meaning 'red king'. Using it for a girl is yet another example of traditional male names being appropriated for girls. Funny how it doesn't happen the other way round.

Anyway, Aurora is a lovely name, but not with Rory as a diminutive.

MikeUniformMike · 23/11/2019 13:20

I can't say my Rs either.
O-wowa.

TatianaLarina · 23/11/2019 11:02

I don’t associate it with Disney at all. I connect it with the Roman goddess, the Northern Lights and the Sleeping Beauty ballet.

I think classic names can survive popular culture associations.

GaraMedouar · 23/11/2019 11:00

I can’t say Aurora - I say Or-wor-wa. (I cant say my r’s.) would be a nightmare name for me!

Leopardprintboots · 23/11/2019 10:58

How about Cora @Liverbird77

I love that name

Or
Roxanne /Roxanna nickname Rox/Roxy
