Wilfred, Casper, Dexter, Rohan or Otto.

Surname begins with hard 'C' and has two syllables.

Brother of this little baby is called Charles, sometimes Charlie

Otto.

ilovetofu · 21/11/2019 10:03

Any of them except Wilfred!

Whattodoabout · 21/11/2019 10:02

Otto is lovely.

Officerthosearenotmysuitcases · 20/11/2019 22:15

Casper

TatianaLarina · 20/11/2019 17:14

Caspar or Otto if you don’t like Roman. Like Jasper too.

Can’t stand Dexter personally. Dex is a very 80s nn.

Dex Dexter anyone?

Jj2431 · 20/11/2019 16:34

Rohan. Don't mind Dexter but I do think of pets when I see the name. Hate the others sorry

EL8888 · 19/11/2019 22:53

@MissHenty l don’t actually like it. I have suggested Otis as a compromise but he’s not especially feeling it

Astronica · 19/11/2019 21:48

Wilfred or Casper.

RockinHippy · 19/11/2019 21:20

Rohan or Otto, though I prefer Otis to Otto

KSxx · 19/11/2019 21:18

Rohan and what about Jasper instead of Casper?

beautiful names!!

misspiggy19 · 19/11/2019 20:04

Rohan

MissHenty · 19/11/2019 20:01

@spacepyramid understood, sorry 👍! Yes it certainly seems to be seen as a predominately girls name in Scotland where it is in the top 100 for girls (rising rapidly) and not featured in the top 100 for boys.

So jealous your partner likes Otto too PP! It’s a great name. Love Dexter too though. Still a vote for Wilfred from me though x

EL8888 · 19/11/2019 18:45

Dexter

My partner would say Otto -he’s desperate to use the name as he loves it

spacepyramid · 19/11/2019 18:43

Spacepyramid - That’s interesting you see Rowan as a girls name.

I don't - I said I see it as a boys name but that it is sometimes used for girls as well.

8Iris8 · 19/11/2019 18:24

Ahh must just be the teacher getting confused - there are two Mila's and one Maya at our nursery and the Maya is always being called Mila! Sounds like a similar kind of thing.
Otillie is a great idea for a girl :)

diddlediddle · 19/11/2019 18:22

Wilfred (Wilf/Fred) goes best with Charles/Charlie. It's a good name. The others are a bit beta or zeitgeisty

MissHenty · 19/11/2019 18:15

I’m south too! There’s 2 Roman’s and 1 Rowan at my sons little nursery and the Rowan just gets called Roman all the time and the teachers do get a bit confused between the three Roman/Rowan’s. They do sound very similar to me but maybe that’s just me 😊 I suppose they start off with the same sound and in terms of spelling, they only have 1 letter difference.
Glad it’s not happened to you though!

I myself have a v common 80s name that is similar to another 80s c common name (along the same lines as “Laura” and “Lauren”), and people always mix up my name with the other similar one and it drives me a bit mad! 🙈 .....just me being silly though, it’s not the end of the world!

Ps. Otto is a great choice if you have another little boy ❤️ Or Ottilie for a girl maybe!

8Iris8 · 19/11/2019 17:49

The problem I have with this name RoHan/RoWan is it sounds exactly the same as RoMan (with an M)

Can I ask what accent you have as Rowan and Roman sound completely different to me (South-East), so I am a bit confused by you
saying they sound the same? I have a Rowan and have never had this issue. I have a friend with a Roman and their names have never been mixed up!

OP I love Otto and is top of our list of DC2 is a boy :)

MissHenty · 19/11/2019 17:37

Ah well if you don’t like Roman (with M) then I’d avoid Rohan as I think the association will really grate on you if there’s a Roman in the same class @winterplease

Spacepyramid - That’s interesting you see Rowan as a girls name. It definitely varies. In Scotland “Rowan“ is indeed a top 100 girls name and is climbing up the charts, but the name doesn’t feature in the top 100 boys’ lists. So definitely predominantly a girls name in Scotland.

I think you should pick Wilfred then as that’s the name you both like 😍 It’s such a cool name

spacepyramid · 19/11/2019 17:02

I'd avoid Roman because the only one I know is downright obnoxious just like his parents I'd avoid Rowan as it's used a lot for girls, though I see it as a boy's name.

I'd assume Rohan was Irish as I used to know an Irish one.

TheReluctantCountess · 19/11/2019 16:59

I like Dexter. Personally, I’d avoid Casper if you already have a child with a name beginning with C

winterplease · 19/11/2019 16:57

Thanks all- I really don't like the name Roman and so I think Rohan or Rowan is off the list for now. I preferred the spelling Rohan as Rowan made me think of Mr Bean!

Dexter is my current favourite, Otto is DHs, and we both really like Wilfred.

Fab list @winterplease

The only name I’d be weary of out of that list is “Rohan”, because of its similarity to the increasingly popular name “Roman” (with an “M”) and the likelihood of it causing confusion (depends if that bothers you or not?). Also as the spelling “Rowan” (with a “W”) is more common than “Rohan” (with an “H”) I think you’d constantly be contracting people.

There’s 2 Roman’s and 1 Rowan at my sons little nursery and I must say it gets confusing. They all end up being called Roman. A couple of years ago I wouldn’t have met any Roman’s but they’re everywhere now! Not surprised to read both Roman and Rowan are the top 100s fastest rising names.

Otto is really cool by the way, but so is Casper and Wilfred and Dexter! I can’t choose but if I had to pick I think I’d pick Wilfred because of the variety with nickname potential (don’t like the “Roh” nickname either, sorry)

OverthinkingThis · 19/11/2019 14:56

I like Wilfred (Wilf). Don't like any of the others, sorry.

Lou0390 · 19/11/2019 14:53

Wilfred fav
Dislike Rohan (really popular at the mo)
