What do you think to Regan (pronounce reegan) for a baby boy?

It's a bit American.

IAcceptCookies · 19/11/2019 15:53

I taught a Regan (boy), and knew a Reagan (girl from NZ).

I wouldn’t think of it as being for boys or girls in particular.
It’s an OK name.

autumnkate · 19/11/2019 09:53

I also think people won’t know whether it’s Ree-gan or Ray-gan

Strugglingtodomybest · 19/11/2019 08:34

I really dislike it, probably because my first thought was "Ronald".

IckleBear · 19/11/2019 08:31

I dislike it..

missyoumuch · 19/11/2019 05:53

I have never heard of Regan for a boy. It's very much a girl's name and also has some challenging literary associations (King Lear, Exorcist). I wouldn't.

EleanorShellstrop100 · 19/11/2019 05:09

I don’t like it - and it reminds me of the exorcist

autumnkate · 18/11/2019 21:26

It’s your baby. It’s not a terrible name. But I personally really dislike it.

DramaAlpaca · 18/11/2019 21:23

It's a female name to me.

FizzyGreenWater · 18/11/2019 11:29

Girl in the exorcist.

Also, very dull.

FurnitureAndBackgammon · 18/11/2019 10:51

There are a few Regans at my DS's school, all boys.
Go for it OP, if you like it.

OverthinkingThis · 18/11/2019 10:40

Not really a fan. Plus seeing it written down I would have pronounced it Ray-gan like the former US president so I think you'd spend a lot of time correcting people.

misspiggy19 · 18/11/2019 10:38

Very harsh name for a girl. Not a boys name.

It is actually a surnmae

17caterpillars1mouse · 18/11/2019 10:33

I dont like it at all

MikeUniformMike · 18/11/2019 10:27

Girl's name. King Lear.

cathpinc · 18/11/2019 09:52

It's also the name of one of the evil sisters in King Lear, so if he ever does that for GCSE English, it'll be fun.

Paddington68 · 18/11/2019 09:46

I know a Regan - boy

Jj2431 · 18/11/2019 09:43

I actually love Regan but came help but think of the exorcist so I couldn't personally

AdelaideK · 18/11/2019 08:26

I know a boy called Regan. It's not my favourite name but he doesn't get comments about it being a girls name so I'd say it was quite acceptable.

notnowmaybelater · 18/11/2019 08:22

Reagan has a history of being used for children of both sexes but Regan has been a female name for hundreds of years.

However people think nothing of sing traditionally male names for girls, so why not? Your son may not thank you for it, so on a personal level it might be a mistake, but in a social level it's good to buck the male stuff = go for both males and femalesod, female stuff = only good enough for feminine girls, bad for males and strong women trend...

weirdsmell · 18/11/2019 08:14

It's a really harsh sound

user1493494961 · 18/11/2019 08:11

I think Regan is awful for a boy or girl.

Astronica · 18/11/2019 07:59

I like Regan for both boys and girls..

SD1978 · 18/11/2019 05:12

Only ever seen it used as a girls name, but do what you want- most parents do.

Nagsnovalballs · 18/11/2019 04:54

It’s a bit ‘a boy named sue’

And terrible if he ever goes to the US, where it is a very female name
