Plum’s sister!

Help please! We chose a very unusual name for our first daughter (Plum Elizabeth) and now we’re stuck on what to name her sister. Our current list feels a bit pedestrian in comparison, does it matter?

We like:

Alice
Flora
Gaia
Cecily
Beatrix
Sylvie
Merryn
Iris (actually, I’ve always loved Isis, but it’s obviously unusable now)

Plum doesn't surprise me.

I know three Saffrons, an Apple, a Cherry, a Lettice, a Cress (Cressida) and a Cinnamon.

I like Plum. Isis is nice but might have a negative reaction. I also like Rumer and Boudicca.

@OnlyTheTitOfTheIceburg yes exactly- I know a Huckleberry and there’s a famous musician called “Berry Gordy” I never thought the name “Berry” was particularly crazy.

Olive is becoming popular - why not Plum!

I like Plum (not that it matters whether I do or not!) and the book Little Plum was the first thing I thought of.

How come Olive and Clementine are fine but people are ribbing Plum?

Sorrel is lovely, I know a 6 or 7 year old Sorrel and she's a sweetheart. Also love Merryn, a beautiful old Cornish name I believe.

Plum is slang for testicle. I do love a Victoria plum warm off the tree though.

I like Gaia, but I think my favourite is PP’s suggestion of Sorrel.

I want daughters called Plum and Sorrel now....

Plum is also a completely normal, traditional and common name for people from some countries-like China. My middle-aged neighbour is called it.

Anywhere multicultural Plum is nothing.

At DD’s school there’s Gurmit, Inderprit, Rashida, Hadya, Mei Chen, Kyung-Wa, Ximena to name but a few.

I predicted you’d find Wolf and Fox horrendous @Jj2431 🤣 (In fairness I do too!)... I was more trying to show that Plum wouldn’t stand out in the way it would have done when we were little. I know of two Plum’s both under 8

Plum is no different to a name like Olive, Jade, Amber, Hazel, Rose etc - a thing that is also a colour. It’s unusual but I don’t think it’s way out at all. A lot nicer than the ghastly Wren that seems to be well liked on here.

I like Sorrel and it goes well with Plum. Loveday and Beatrice were on our list for a girl, both would also go well with Plum.
