Alice or Faye

Weve really struggled to pick a name for our baby daughter, shes two weeks old now and we've told the family her name is Faye which I have loved. However, we were originally set on Alice and now I cant help but think of her as an Alice and love the niknames attached to it.
Her Dads not too happy with me and doesnt want to tell everyone that weve changed it especially after taking a week to pick to begin with, do you think its okay to change it after a week of being Faye and whats everyones thoughts on the names? Please be honest, I still like Faye just think I love Alice more.

Yeh 2 weeks is mega early - It’s really no big deal at all to change a name at this point

I think it’s important to convey to DH that you’re not just being silly or whatever... you’re serious about this. My husband didn’t really listen to me about this type of stuff at the time, and he feels bad about it now. But I probably didn’t communicate very effectively at the time

Have you made a decision @BuildaClaire

Elle7rose · 19/11/2019 17:58

It really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks (personally I like them equally); what matters is that you and DH both love the name.

You said that you like 'Faye' and love 'Alice'- you have tried the name 'Faye' and still feel like you'd prefer to change it. If DH loves 'Alice' too then great, otherwise maybe you should find another that you both love.

Two weeks is really early and no-one will care if you make 'Faye' the middle name instead.

Much prefer Alice

benandhollyagaaain · 18/11/2019 21:38

Personally prefer Faye but Alice is lovely too. Definitely not too late to change it. The biggest thing for me is you should both agree though

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 18/11/2019 21:20

Love faye!!!!

fairynick · 18/11/2019 19:37

My name is Faye! I’m in my twenties and I really love my name. No silly nicknames etc growing up and apart from the odd misspelling with no e which doesn’t irritate me I’ve had no problems. I was the only Faye in my year at school, actually I may have only been the only Faye at school. Everyone always comments that I have a pretty name and it’s a name that everyone knows but not many people have. The other Fayes I met growing up were really cool which again I think is why I love the name 😂
I personally don’t like Alice but I still think it’s a strong name. I just know quite a few and it doesn’t sound right when someone in their thirties has the name Alice, it’s too girly.
Think I’m too biased for this debate 😂

IVflytrap · 18/11/2019 19:33

Slightly prefer Alice, but Faye is very nice too, and less common in this generation.

As has been said upthread, don't worry about what others think, they'll get used to whichever name you use and won't remember what you originally told them in a few months' time.

You know, you could always hyphenate... Alice-Faye has a nice ring to it. All of mumsnet would hate it however Grin

Leopardprintboots · 18/11/2019 19:28

Alice Alice Alice

Faye rhymes with Gay so I can imagine being bullied (I’m sure children are a bit more accepting nowadays hopefully though!!)

The best girls name ever but I think you already know that @BuildaClaire

Did you manage to get it changed?

IsadoraQuagmire · 18/11/2019 19:28

(There was an American actress called Alice Faye, although I doubt many would have heard of her nowadays

That's dreadful Alice Faye is one of my absolute favourite actress/singers (I'm in my early 20s)

Sugarplummy84 · 18/11/2019 19:22

Alice so much nicer Smile

MarshaBradyo · 17/11/2019 21:41

Faye

Really not keen on Alice

Evanna13 · 17/11/2019 21:39

Probably Faye, I dislike Alice and not sure why...

diddlediddle · 17/11/2019 17:34

Alice is much nicer imo but what matters is what you think.

All the craziness that happens after a baby is born does not make for a great environment for making sensible decisions. It's perfectly understandable that you would change your mind. If you are sure on Alice and DP also likes it then change it! No one will care. It's such early days.

If your DP has anything to say about you changing your mind then point out that he has not grown a human being in his body, birthed it, then had to recover whilst (possibly) feeding it with your own body. And that you are entitled to change your mind.

Thinkingsticks · 17/11/2019 15:22

I prefer Faye. I think it's a lovely name and means fairy, also my sister's name. She is 30 but I've met a teenage Faye and a 5 year old Faye.

I think Alice is nice but is more common if that bothers you.

But go with your gut x

MsTSwift · 17/11/2019 07:12

I am so bored of Alice! Faye abit more original

Astronica · 17/11/2019 03:18

Definitely Alice. Alice Faye is nice together.

MikeUniformMike · 16/11/2019 13:54

Alice. Fay is nice, maybe as mn?

NoSauce · 16/11/2019 11:31

I think Faye is dated and particularly nondescript. It’s a very 80s name to me.

Alice is lovely.

romylee · 16/11/2019 10:45

Definitely Faye. I find Alice quite plain and boring

user1493494961 · 16/11/2019 09:11

Definitely Alice, it's OK to change it, she's only two weeks, she doesn't know her name. (There was an American actress called Alice Faye, although I doubt many would have heard of her nowadays).

Trewser · 16/11/2019 08:05

I have worked with two transwomen (different conpanies) and when they transitioned they both changed their name to Faye. No judgement, just a random memory.

Spied · 16/11/2019 08:03

Alice is beautiful.
Faye is nice.

Seahorseshoe · 16/11/2019 07:58

I love Alice.

userabcname · 16/11/2019 07:45

Faye is much prettier!

MsTSwift · 16/11/2019 07:45

Loads of Alices Faye much better
