Just a rant on baby names!

As the title says...

We've picked a name that pays tribute to my late grandad, myself & my partner are really happy with it but so many people keep telling us we better not use an old man's name or it better not be anyone's in the family or a to "out there" name or blah blah blah 😒😒😒
His nickname will be CJ which I really like.

Why do people think they have a say on the name of the baby you're pushing out of your vagina??? 🤔🤣

I think I'm a bit touchy as I got such shit over my daughters name when she was born I ended up with PND... But still it's no one else's business right??

They're being rude by butting in.

But I also think people have a point about family name and using names of relatives. They're their own person so why do they need naming after someone else. However that's neither here nor there if you like it.

Hmm, tricky.
It's probably not their response that caused the PND but it certainly could have exacerbated it.
Could someone who is on your side have a word with immediate family to suggest they tone it down this time? Or go NC.

I would try it out here first and accept that people on here can be quite rude.

IRL, even popular names like Noah or Ezra will be considered ' out there ' by some people.

I would try to get as many people on your side and hope that the PND doesn't happen again.

My daughters name is Delilah. At a few hours old I had messages saying she would grow up to be a whore & she will be disowned by her fathers grandparent (which she was)
So as you can understand I'm on edge over it all

BILs initials are CJ.

If you are worried about the reaction, how about name changing and testing both names on here? That way you will get a chance to see if it is just your family, or if they are really off names.

I know a kid called Cyril. Not remotely a name I can imagine anyone choosing. Horrible name really. But you know what? he is just my ds friend Cyril and no-one bats an eye. Unusual names have become ordinary so I am no longer surprised by any name I hear really

We haven't told anyone the name and don't plan on it until he's here. I'm just so worried I'll get the same reaction as before when we do announce it, I'm 9 years older now but don't think I could cope with it again!

Well...... I'm inclined to think if this is a child you are going to love and have a lot to do with, then you do have feelings about the poor little thing being landed with some of the names on here.
How much your family discuss such things will be different for every family.

We didn't tell anyone our dcs' names before they were born and actual people.

But we didn't have a track record of giving our dc1 some "Youneeq" name to make people feel nervous.

It's your baby and both of you like the name, so unless it is truly dreadful use it.

If it is something a bit dated like Colin or something use it.
Nothing against Colin, just not many of them seem to be under 50.
