What do you think of the name Wilfred? Nn Wilf, or Freddie.

Is it just too old fashioned?
We be a brother to Charles.

I like it and I love Wilf. Perfect next to Charles.

strawberrye · 13/11/2019 07:37

Love it. Nickname Wilf is lovely and also love the meaning of Wilfred. It was our first choice for a boy.

BusterGonad · 13/11/2019 01:05

I'm not a fan, to me it's not dissimilar to Frank or Arthur which I do not like. Wilf is my top pet name though, literally for a animal.

Tillygetsit · 13/11/2019 00:53

I love Wilfred. A relative has an 8 year old usually known as Wilf. He's bright, cheeky, obsessed with taking things apart and putting them back together and is just gorgeous. He's who I think of so I love it.

KatherineJaneway · 12/11/2019 22:53

If you say Wilfred, I think Lunn.

Love Freddie though.

AfterSomeAdvice1234 · 12/11/2019 22:49

I love Wilfred, I think it's a brilliant name, one my absolute favourites. Like Wilf and Freddie as NNs. Can't go wrong in my book!

DamnitCharlie · 12/11/2019 21:56

I know a couple of baby Wilfreds so it's getting more popular. They get called Wilf or Wilfie which I think is cute.

DramaAlpaca · 12/11/2019 21:39

I hate it & all its diminutives.

Cbeebiesrehab · 12/11/2019 20:38

The name of my imaginary third child!! Love it.

TheHootiestOwl · 12/11/2019 20:38

I love Wilf!

MissHenty · 12/11/2019 20:06

Wilfred/wilf is one of my very favourite names @winterplease - my husband vetoed it which I was so sad about but he’s subsequently said he really likes the name now!!! 🙄🙄 I think it’s because we know a really cool little chap with this name.

It’s not wet in the slightest. Names like Alfie and Albie (which are more popular), could be seen as a bit cute and wet. Not Wilfred! Plus so many nickname potentials that your son can choose from and pick his favourite! It’s perfect

BertieBotts · 12/11/2019 20:04

I don't like it, sorry. It puts me immediately in mind of the word wilted.

RuthW · 12/11/2019 19:54

It's my fav name along with Edwin.

It's lovely.

HorridHamble · 12/11/2019 19:50

I like Wilf. I have a feeling it’s going to become more popular.

Saying that, my first reaction to Wilfred was (in my head, not out loud to mother of baby Wilf) “oh as in Pip, Squeak and Wilfred?” but I don’t know how well-known that game is nowadays.

Wilf is a great name.

Shoutymomma · 12/11/2019 19:45

Wilf is a good name.

cliffdiver · 12/11/2019 19:40

I like it, nn Wilf.

DH used to have a dog called Wilfred though, so he vetoed it Grin

Grinchly · 12/11/2019 19:36

Well it's better than Wilbur , which my friend considered.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 12/11/2019 19:14

I like it. He can be Will if he wants to blend in. Like a PP, my immediate response is Wilfred Owen, which is a pretty great association.

Lucylivesinamushroomhouse · 12/11/2019 19:14

Great name, lovely meaning too (desires peace I think). Wilf is a nice nickname.

HarrietM87 · 12/11/2019 19:11

It’s a very trendy name amongst east London hipster types, if that affects your decision! I wouldn’t choose it for that reason, but I think it’s quite nice objectively.

DuckyGoLightly · 12/11/2019 19:06

I love it. It's also so versatile - Wilf, Wilfy, Will.

PurpleDaisies · 12/11/2019 19:01

It’s surprisingly trendy. I don’t like it at all.

SinglePringle · 12/11/2019 19:01

Great name. Wilfred is a dignified full name and Wilf is a cracking nickname.

BonBon411 · 12/11/2019 18:58

It is beyond AWFUL!

Yesyesitsme · 12/11/2019 18:50

I love it. I do know a couple of young Wilf/Wilfreds so definitely not just an old man's name anymore. To me it's traditional, friendly, just a lovely name.
